It is six o'clock and the winter sun is rising 
The hardened light makes it difficult to see
Dark shapes hidden in the night 
Will soon have colour from the light   
As the morning sun rises slowly from it's slumber
Somewhere now a dog begins it's howling 
And a voice calls out a name as if to scold
Then silence holds time quite still, as if against it's very will
And order comes again to this day   
In St' James's park you can hear the birds are singing
As the taxi's take the rich on their way (to start their day)  
While people queue at bus stops, like solders on parade
This is how it starts for them every working day …..

Buildings hold the history of deeds done, black as night
Where vagabonds and villains were punished for their plights
The eye stands like a target to dungeons built of stone
But no one cares their preoccupied as they chat on mobile 'phones      
So near to them the wicked and the rotten
Cast in wax so they won't be forgotten 
The morning sun can mesmerize when you look across the Thames 
Pavements sparkle silver light like a million little gems.
Smells from waking restaurants with fancy names in different fonts 
Fills the air and makes this poor boy hungry 
The barrow boys call out their fair, a sight to see as you stand there
With cheeky lines they've heard since they were children      

I remember in the day, when we were just kids we used to play
On the bombed out sites with broken glass and stone
We were running wild and playing free, looking back now I can see
London now seems so different to me
Every day as I walked to my school
Each brick by brick, I saw it all 
The tower blocks seemed to touch the sky, the busy streets now simplified
By blocks of gray where people lived and died …
No rag and bone man or tinkers to see, or the smell of tar when a delivery
Of coal that was delivered by a horse and cart
Gardens covered by slabs of stone so motors cars can park at home
Away from the yellow lines and 'no go zones

SPAK ;- Nickname for about 40 years .. forgotten why?

I have been writing songs and poetry since the 60's. I joined a band ( Kerbstone ) in the 70's as lead vocalist and rhythm guitar, soon we purchased a Vox keyboard on which I played such things as Hawkwind 's 'In search of space' .. that was until we were thrown off stage at a Pontins  holiday camp during the gig for being too loud! At some point the bassist decided to marry his girlfriend ( who hated sitting on the stage waiting to drive him home) and our guitarist discovered that grass is sometimes greener (if you get the point) and went AWOL.

Me on the other hand got into writing and singing, joined a few other bands doing vocals, but my heart was in recording. I had a two year contract from a rip off agent, did some work for RCA ,although gainfully employed elsewhere and, actually turned down an A&R guy .. bad move as I discovered later E/L/& P had some interest. I wrote some gospel songs that I think are still be sung , but they ended up in America somewhere so I'm not sure ... Marriage took over then kids and mortgage payments plus trimmings were the order of the day.
My best friend and wife has been though it all with me and put up with my desire to build a small studio in retirement ... so there it is ...an opened nutshell.
Lastly ... I hope you enjoy listening to my songs  ...
