As a child, when I’d sail with my father he would call out from behind his steerage to “Let go.”  I would be standing on the front deck holding the mooring line firmly when he was ready to steer clear of the quayside. It was my job to keep the line taught and he would have to convince me it was time to “Let Go!”

Like so many things in life, we sometimes hold on to things when it’s time to “Let Go.”

I’m now trying to let my father go, but I’ll never let the lifeline of music go, that was a big part of our father and daughter connection.

Folksinger Clementine (NL) grew up from a family well-known for engineering on the water. When her father came home after his long travels (up to a year) her mother's chansons were replaced for his Celtic/Irish music. Water, nature and freedom where fundamentals to her as she grew up. The Irish music became her lifeline with her father being away at sea. When she sings Celtic or Irish folk music now it feels like coming home. Nowadays she mixes the style naturally with Jazzy, Bluesy and even chanson influences.   

Clementine prefers singing in English but made an exception for the Dutch song 'Na de Hoos' (After the storm) written by friend and writer Guus Westdorp. Originally written for the flood in New Orleans after Katrina.   

She performed the song at the official memorial for the Dutch flood of 1953 for the Dutch president and survivors. The words of the song made an impact and lived further in the political speeches. This event was broadcasted by national media including primetime news, French and American tv from New Orleans. 

In 2003 she released her first album ‘Special to Me’ for record label Coast to Coast and producer Philip Masure, in the folk studio (BE). This album was embraced by national radio stations like Radio 2 & 5.   

She toured dutch theatres from small rooms of 80 seats up to concert halls of 750 seats and decided to study a few elemental courses online with Berklee to gain more understanding of songwriting and production.    

She also loves to collaborate with other songwriters like Wyatt Easterling and Daithi Rua (worked with the Fureys/Clannad/Moya Brennan) and Guus Westdorp who wrote several top-1 hits for A-artists in the Netherlands. Or perform with Italian singer Alberto Napolitano, one of the heirs of the Genua school chanson. When the occasion rises she opens concerts for legendary band The Fureys.

And again as the occasion arrises she's happily to play as a duo with Wyatt.

She’s currently booking another tour to support her new release “Letting Go”. And can be booked solo, duo, trio or even as a full five-piece band with engineer.
