The songs conjure up visions of pool parties where you get to splash up next to your special someone. Eric Lau, an international music producer and DJ based in London, composed The Waters for Making Waves Sanya (China). Lau created this theme with a pace that would work with the flow of the water. He also wanted to capture both the spirit of the water and the crew. ¨The water can be very serious but can also be very tranquil at the same time. The crew also showed a diversity and spirit that represents a lot of the modern world so I feel the elements in the music represents this fusion¨, says Lau. The flute, played by Olmo Cassibba, added life to the track and creates a subtle Chinese connection. There is also a cameo from ‘Horace’, 22 years old, the youngest crew member of he Dongfeng Race Team.

The enigmatic DANCED TIL MIDNIGHT graces the debut release for brand new UK label Thylacine Sounds. Bringing together elements of disco, funk, hip hop, afrobeat, complemented perfectly by the spirit-channelling of the likes of Fela Kuti, Babe Ruth, Chicago Transit Authority, via Francis Grasso and Larry Levan, over the four tracks... Danced Til Midnight's "Sun Bleach" EP is built for dancing, a treat for the ears and the feet. With a special appearance from vinyl hero Tall Black Guy on the collaboration "Wheat Bread And Eggs", this is an audacious and energetic debut for the label and the artist, and a clear statement of intent of further gems to come on Thylacine Sounds.

Having given us one of the most successful album releases in the Wah Wah catalogue with their eponymous debut over 18 months ago now, Bristol siblings in jazz the Colman Brothers have finally succumbed to the remix project we’ve all been waiting for, and what a project it is!

The brothers’ sophisticated style and penchant for 60s latin influenced jazz by the likes of Horace Silver and Francy Bolland has been brought right up-to-date by some of the most heavyweight producers around, and a few new names to watch. 

Up and coming beat-maker from Caracas, Venezula, Jimmy Flamante kicks things off in a low slung style akin to producer of the moment Tall Black Guy, who also features with his typically laid back re-working of one of the original album’s highlights. Elsewhere, latin specialist Sunlightsquare drops a 4/4 version of “Some Other Wonder” that’s aimed strictly at the dance floor, as does the mysterious Bman, and newcomers Skinshape impress with a dubbed out take of  the very cheeky “Momo”.

Look out for Herma Puma’s re-imagination of “The Chief”, taking it directly back to its B-Movie roots, as well as the popular interpretation by our very own Part-Time Heroes. And don’t forget label mate/boss Scrimshire who also weighs in with a sultry remix of “She Who Dares” and beat heads Frameworks, whose version of “El Nino” will keep lovers of both hip hop and jazz happy in equal measure.

Add to that sublime mixes from UK legends Easy Access Orchestra and The Herbaliser, NYC’s Greenwood Rhythm Coalition, Hamburg’s Renegades Of Jazz and of course, Bristol’s very own Colman Brothers themselves, and you’ve got an international selection of the highest order!

Today (April 10th) is my birthday!! whoop whoop!  The weekend just gone had me wondering what a semi-house treatment of one of my favourite Foreign Exchange tracks would sound like.

One thing led to another and before I knew it I was time stretching and chopping the hell outta Nicolay's lush rhodes from the original version of the song (got it on wax thank you!) and up to my neck in unfamiliar BPM territory! (this is my first go at something like this)

Figured I'd lay down a self imposed deadline of my birthday to turn it in and save the track from 4 bar hell! Here it is, enjoy/share and big up Nicolay, Phonte and of course Darien Brockington for inspiring the treatment.
