'Bog Talk' earths us in the sphagnum squidge of bogs to draw out the magic of peatlands in Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor in south west England. We’ll be chatting about poetry, place, peatland restoration, tracing conversations and creations made over a year, from spring to spring. In this episode, we speak to our project partners at the South West Peatland Partnership at one of their sites on Dartmoor. High on the moor, surrounded by pools of greening sphagnum, we discuss the role of the project, change, and how the team share their work and inspire new generations to care for these extraordinary landscapes.

The Exeter Impact Podcast: Series Two Preview

We talk to Professor Tamara Galloway OBE and Professor Brendan Godley. Their highly collaborative work with academic, governmental and non-governmental organisations and industrial partners has been key in understanding our oceans and the pollution that impacts ourselves, other species and industry. Finding real-world solutions for their stakeholders is the common thread that runs through their work. 

Professor Tamara Galloway OBE is a Professor of Ecotoxicology at the Department of Biosciences. Her research focuses on marine pollution, the human health effects of pollutants and the sustainable development of novel materials and substances. She is a member of the Environmental Biology research group and the Exeter Marine network.

Professor Brendan Godley is the Strategy Lead of Exeter Marine and a conservation scientist whose research interests encompass biodiversity conservation, with a particular emphasis on marine vertebrates such as turtles, mammals, birds, and sharks. In recent years, his focus has shifted towards interdisciplinary approaches to conservation, addressing critical issues like bycatch mitigation in fisheries, the impact of ocean plastics, and the design of marine protected areas.

How can Astrophysics inform our understanding of Earth’s weather and climate and inspire the next generation of scientists? We talk to Professor Nathan Mayne to learn more.

Professor Mayne’s exciting research covers Earth's climate through time, solar system planet climates and exoplanets. He is interested in understanding how climates evolve and how life and the planetary climate systems interact, and in exploring the evolution of the life-climate system on Earth, and how that might have differed on Mars or Venus and for exoplanets. His work also aims to provide support to space missions to solar system planets, such as developing a Martian weather forecasting system and a Venus climate model.
