RIQ, 2 Cities 1 Sound
In Hip-Hop, artists are known to represent where they come from and expose their sound to the larger Hip-Hop Culture. RIQ, a hybrid of 2 cities, has created his own movement. RIQ represents ILLCITY, which is a blend of East Orange, (ILLTOWN) NJ and Newark, (BRICKCITY) NJ. His roots in the community also were built in playing sports and attending schools in both cities, which he lived, divided by a bridge/tunnel on 4th Avenue separating each town. “I am 4th Avenue in Newark, NJ and William Street in East Orange, NJ. The streets run parallel to each other. There is a bridge/tunnel on 4th avenue that separates the 2 cities. “ Being able to stay focus and survive the ghetto, music gave me the freedom of expression, that kept my mind from being idle. An idle mind is the devil’s playground”.  

RIQ has taken his love for Hip-Hop and has established himself as a voice to be heard in the community and in the greater Hip-Hop landscape. By using his background of commitment to music, family, and responsibility from the influences of growing up in the streets. RIQ has taken the role of being a leader by joining programs to teach the youth through his music and to be an example of a leader while establishing dreams and working to make them come true. RIQ has accomplished becoming known in the culture as 1/3 of the 050 Boyz. He is mentored by well-known legends in the Hip-Hop Community: Doitall Du of Lords of the Underground, and Treach of Naughty By Nature. RIQ has also appeared on radio programs hosted by DJ Eclipse, DJ Kay Slay  (Garden State Greats) and DJ Premier garnering international airplay and sharing the stage with music legends such as ICE-T, DMX, MOBB DEEP, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Lords of the Underground and Naughty by Nature. 

RIQ is now taking the lessons he has taught such as song writing, and studio production to introduce the world to his own personal look into Hip-Hop with the .5 series. While stepping out away from his group, RIQ is establishing himself as a voice that will be heard and he is bringing his own brand to life. By executive producing and project production, RIQ has taken the role of CEO established his own movement: ILLCITY ENT. With artists like Out Da Mud (Frank Castle, Shot Kobang, and Grim CYPH), and 2G following his lead, RIQ is ushering in new generation of artists from New Jersey’s Hip-Hop Culture.
