Ask the members of Borokov Borokov to say something about their new album De Verkeerde Fout (The Wrong Mistake), and they will answer you that it is the best record they have ever made. And then something about sliced white bread or dry shampoo. No, you don't get much wiser when the trio has to interpret or analyze themselves and their unconventional, asymmetrically bouncing synthpop. 

Two years after their album with the significant title Enkel Duetten (Only Duets), Arne Omloop, Boris Van den Eynden, and Noah Melis have again invited a motley collection of guests. Besides Dutch, you can now also hear Japanese, Slavic pronunciations, English words, and Dutch dialects – wriggled between the beats and melodies. Maybe these participants do have something (un)sensible to say about De Verkeerde Fout and BB's freaky universe?

My assignment was simple', guitarist Elko Blijweert says about his contribution to De Grauwe Panter. It could be anything. Since that song was first called Hotel Restaurant Cafe - a much better title - I played as if people were eating and drinking at the same time. And afterwards it turned out there was someone else playing on that track, a certain Lotte Vanhamel. I didn't know anything about that, but actually I wasn't surprised. Incredibly predictable unpredictable, that's what these guys are like'. 

'Oy, what's this?' is how Koen Van Bommel of Amsterdam duo De Witte Kunst summarizes his first impression of Borokov Borokov. The music they sent me hardly had a recognizable melody, and it was very disquieting. I couldn't find room for a chorus anywhere. Or at least nothing that would make people spontaneously clap their hands. But the end result, Rita De Rover, sounds fine. I really couldn't have done better! 

When I looked them up on Google it turned out to be a band without a drummer,' says Van Bommel's fellow countryman Huub Prins, who can be heard on Moeilijke Tijden. 'Apart from Urbanus, I know very little about Belgian artists. But anyway, they had more listeners on Spotify than I did, so I could only take advantage of it. They gave me carte blanche for the lyrics, and I wrote something about Moses who wanders through the desert,  stoned to the core. I had seen something about it on National Geographic.'. 

Mia Prce of Miaux, who lends her vocal chords to the song GELD, was given ready-made vocal material. They were looking for someone who spoke a Slavic language - my roots are in Croatia - but they had written the lyrics themselves using Google Translate and Text To Speech software. The fact that I thought it sounded rather archaic didn't seem to bother them. So my input for Borokov Borokov was rather limited, but I like their energy. I myself usually stand on the stage like a cardboard sign'. 

Isolde Van Den Bulcke, the Ghent siren known as Tristan, can be reached at +32456393836 (not her phone number), and says that she said 'yes' because of Noah’s beautiful eyes. Kanna Sato sent a message from Japan saying she always dreamed of having a number one hit in Belgium (that was promised to her with ぜんぶ、できる), and Dennis Tyfus tells that he happened to have seven minutes to cry on the song Grappige Man(cry, yes).  

Finally, the mysterious duo Bobonne & Parrain informs by email that they distance themselves from their contribution to Sexboy. They wanted us to sing something in French. That didn't work at all. Besides, the lyrics were very sexist. So we limited ourselves to gargling and fart-sounds. We happen to be good at that, and that's all we wanted to do. We wish Borokov Borokov the best of luck with their absurd attempts at pop music. Or attempts at absurd pop music, whatever'.

ROTARY PEOPLE is the first cut from CIRQLE & CYQLE's ENDINGS BEGINNINGS album wich drops late December 2022.
The album features numerous vocal-guests and the first single has hiphop vibes drenched in deep electronics in they're own unique style.

De Kloe Hits: De Kloe is an Antwerp/Brussels-based band. They play organic, homegrown dance beats mixed with raw musical themes and bare-boned structures. It serves as the starting point for musical improvisation and playful experimentation.
‘De Kloe Hits’ is De Kloe’s debut EP on Rotkat Records. Earlier, they released the first single from the EP, ‘Hit It.’ This single revolves around a tight drum ‘n bass beat, an elastic bassline, and an airy garage/surf guitar riff. Throughout the rest of the EP, various musical ideas are layered and woven together to create new hybrids. In this sense, ‘De Kloe Hits’ perfectly aligns with Dennis Tyfus’ description following their concert at De Nor: “When five entirely different bands play together and it magically works.”
Over the years, De Kloe has performed on various stages, including De Nor, Onder Stroom, Leffingeleuren, and Signaal Festival. Until now, they’ve released several demo tapes, live recordings, and various standalone tracks independently. For ‘De Kloe Hits,’ the group aimed to maintain a close connection to live recordings. While there’s more focus on a specific sound compared to previous releases, a certain DIY-approach still persists.
The EP was recorded in the rural town of Schelderode, alongside Sergey Steenackers, who also mixed the EP. The songs were written some time before and matured through numerous concerts and rehearsals, resulting in the versions heard on ‘De Kloe Hits.’ Karel De Backer handled the mastering.
‘De Kloe Hits’ will be available both online via popular streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, etc.) and on cassette. Only hits included! 
The release of ‘De Kloe Hits’ is accompanied by a tour that begins on February 2nd at Het Bos in Antwerp. Other tour dates include:

Deze single is opgebouwd rond een strakke drum ’n bass-beat, een elastische baslijn en een luchtig garage/surf gitaarriffje. Ook op de rest van de EP worden verschillende muzikale ideeën over elkaar gelegd en aan elkaar gebreid om tot nieuwe hybrides te komen. In die zin past ‘De Kloe Hits’ perfect onder de beschrijving van Dennis Tyfus naar aanleiding van hun concert in De Nor: “When five entirely different bands play together and it magically works.” 
Al enkele jaren heeft De Kloe verschillende podia bespeeld, waaronder De Nor, Onder Stroom, Leffingeleuren en Signaal Festival. Tot nu bracht De Kloe al verschillende demo-tapes, live recordings en allerlei losse tracks uit in eigen beheer. Voor ‘De Kloe Hits’ heeft de groep dan ook dicht bij live-opnames willen blijven. Hoewel er meer aandacht is voor een bepaalde sound dan op eerdere releases, is er nog steeds sprake van een zekere DIY-aanpak. 
De EP werd opgenomen in het landelijke Schelderode, samen met Sergey Steenackers, die de EP ook gemixt heeft. De nummers werden echter al enige tijd daarvoor geschreven en zijn doorheen de loop van verscheidene concerten en repetities gerijpt tot de versies hoorbaar op ‘De Kloe Hits’. De EP werd gemasterd door Karel De Backer. 
‘De Kloe Hits’ verschijnt zowel online via populaire streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, …) als op cassette. Alleen hits incluis!!!

Love Forever

Tussen de zee en de bomen is de eerste single van het tweede album van Abel Ghekiere. Geïnspireerd op de klarinetten van Django Reinhardt en de stem van Bill Callahan, zindert de muziek op zoek naar een einde. “Vorige week waren de takken langer dan mezelf”, visuele impressies worden verteld en omgezet in muziek die wiegt en roept. 
Door te werken met voice samples en field recordings staat de stem en improvisatie centraal. Geluiden van buiten worden subtiel verweven met instrumenten, terwijl gesprekken en herinneringen fungeren als rode draad door de composities. De muziek stroomt de kamer binnen en brengt daarbij herinnerde plekken en stemmen met zich mee.
De muziek werd heel nomadisch opgenomen, op verschillende plekken, met verschillende mensen. De meeste partijen werden geschreven en gespeeld door Abel Ghekiere zelf maar met gastbijdrages van o.a. Vitja Pauwels, Nicolas Rombauts, Leo Adamov, & Jan de Vroede breekt de plaat open in een zacht klankpallet.

‘In de verte, dit uitzicht’ is het tweede album van Abel Ghekiere. Het is een viering van schoonheid en plotse uitbarstingen van euforie en melancholie, verstopt in de kenmerkende zachte en breekbare sound van Ghekiere’s muziek. Veel persoonlijker dan op zijn debuutplaat roept hij de wereld toe. ‘Tussen de zee en de bomen’ komt 11 oktober uit op op alle platformen, gereleased bij RotKat records. Het album: In de verte, dit uitzicht verschijnt in februari 2024 met release show op 20 februari in de Botanique, Brussel.

Composed by Maarten Van Cauwenberghe, Elko Blijweert and Bjorn Eriksson, the Original Music from The Sea Within is a thrilling ménage à trois of acclaimed soundscape artists. As it’s already given away by the title, their first collaboration comprises the original scores to The Sea Within, a contemporary-dance performance by Voetvolk, the company of Van Cauwenberghe and dancer/choreographer Lisbeth Gruwez.

The electronic sound design of the Original Music from The Sea Within is partly inspired by musical experiments: the combination of minimalistic synths, a tingling game with frequencies and a strong, persistent bass will push this record to the bottom of your senses.

- een kamer waarin de virtuoos Frederik Croene piano speelt

ondertussen gedraagt Rocco Hueting zich als percussionist: hij loopt rond en slaat met de deuren.

Boris Van den Eynden is vastgebonden aan zijn stoel en gebruikt neus en mond om een Hammond Auto-Vari 64 Drum Machine en filterbank te bedienen. Arne Omloop en Yorgos Tsakiridis experimenteren met de productie.

Borokov Borokovs tweede liefdeslied: de ultieme versmelting van solliciatie- en de liefdesbrief. Men hoort hoe de frontvrouw van Whiserping Sons meimert over wat de Dienst voor Arbeidsbemiddeling en Beroepsopleiding nog van haar zou (kunnen) verwachten na een vruchtbare carrière in de muziekbusiness (in A mineur)

Popster Mathieu Terryn (Bazart) en Borokov Borokov proberen de sensatie van een doorsnee-mannenleven te evoceren. Het doordeweekse is niet tegengesteld aan de heldhaftigheid. Integendeel, het is er net de meest onopgemerkte vorm van: de Man heeft “te weinig vitamine D”, rijdt met behulp van “cruisecontrole naar de zee”, werd “afgedankt en gepromoveerd” en heeft de “cadeaubon geïncasseerd”. Zang door Brusselaar/bassist van het schitterende A.llez A.llez en zijn Vlaamse fans B.orokov B.orokov. De woorden die ze zingen zijn uitsluitend leenwoorden: woorden die zowel in het Nederlands als in het Frans worden gebruikt.  In deze precaire tijden: Fuck NVA & Vlaams Belang!!!

Shy Dog is the solo project of Noah Melis (Borokov Borokov, Bed Rugs, Olden Yolk). After the self titled debut album (released in 2017) now comes the follow up record 'Be Always In Bloom' which was heavily influenced by being on the road, going through a break-up and sixties French & Italian movie scores. Much like the first record almost everything was written, recorded and played by Noah himself but this time he also called upon a number of close friends who play more exotic instruments making the songs more orchestrated. Last overdubs were recorded in Studio Jesus by Pascal Deweze and the album was finalised and mixed during a two week trip in the south of Italy.
Shy Dog's new songs still dangle between bedroom pop and light psychelica, not unlike Connan Mockasin or Devendra Banhart, but it's becoming more apparent that he is creating his own universe filled with interweaving melodies, waltzing percussion loops and subtle electronica.

Rotkat Records presents Never Not Ever Not Ok, the first micro-album of Lorie Bevins containing the single Kafé Canaalzicht. This collection of 4 tracks is a preview for the album The Valley of Despair is a Mountain of Joy, Upside Down which will be released in the fall of 2021.
Bevins is the moniker of multi-noninstrumentalist Boris Van den Eynden. While some may know Van den Eynden from Antwerp bands such as Borokov Borokov, CUNTST or Laat Maar, Lorie Bevins is manufacturing songs that don't fit (in) the more dance-oriented, cacophonous or absent repertoire of the aforementioned formations.
