In this episode, we take a deep dive into Lucyd’s journey through the underground techno scene, exploring her unique blend of hardgroovy techno, sound design expertise, and the powerful connection between music and community. As a DJ, producer, and co-owner of the Calosc label, Lucyd's story reveals how she’s been shaping and defining the sound of the European underground.

Born in Bulgaria and based in Poland, Lucyd’s path into techno is rooted in a deep understanding of sound. She was trained as an audio engineer and later applied her technical skills to create music that blends groove, drive, and raw energy. Her productions have earned recognition from platforms such as HATE, Techno Germany, Grab The Groove, and more, reaching underground audiences across Europe.

Beyond the studio, Lucyd has played some of the most iconic venues in Europe, including Berlin's about blank, Kit Kat, OXI, Renate, and Anomalie, as well as the Amsterdam Dance Event and clubs across Poland, Bulgaria, Italy, Denmark, and beyond. Her connection with the underground scene has allowed her to share the stage with artists like Yanamaste, Alarico, Chlaer, Ellie Acula, Ki/Ki, FJAAK, Amotik, Somewhen, Ryan Elliott, Fiedel, and Peter Van Hoesen.

IN THIS EPISODE, WE ASKED LUCYD A FEW QUESTIONS THAT ARE CLOSE TO OUR HEARTS, QUESTIONS THAT REFLECT ON WHERE THE TECHNO SCENE IS HEADED, AND WHAT IT TRULY MEANS TODAY.

WHAT SHOULD THE TECHNO SCENE STOP TOLERATING?
"SUPERFICIALITY. TECHNO WAS BUILT ON COMMUNITY, FREEDOM, AND EXPERIMENTATION, NOT HIERARCHY OR TRENDS. WE SHOULD STOP TOLERATING EXCLUSION, WHETHER IT’S BASED ON LOOKS, STATUS, OR CONNECTIONS AND REFOCUS ON THE MUSIC AND SHARED EXPERIENCE."

CAN TECHNO STILL CHALLENGE THE SYSTEM, OR HAS IT BECOME PART OF IT?
"IT CAN BUT ONLY IF WE CHOOSE TO KEEP ITS ROOTS ALIVE. PARTS OF THE SCENE HAVE BEEN ABSORBED BY COMMERCIALISM, BUT THE UNDERGROUND STILL CARRIES THAT REBELLIOUS ENERGY. TECHNO CAN CHALLENGE THE SYSTEM WHEN IT STAYS INDEPENDENT, QUESTIONS NORMS, AND BUILDS REAL SPACES FOR EXPRESSION AND RESISTANCE."

WHAT IS MISSING TODAY IN ELECTRONIC MUSIC THAT ONCE MADE IT REVOLUTIONARY?
"RISK-TAKING. MANY ARTISTS ARE CHASING ALGORITHMS INSTEAD OF FOLLOWING INSTINCT. WHAT MADE ELECTRONIC MUSIC REVOLUTIONARY WAS ITS CURIOSITY, THE WILLINGNESS TO EXPERIMENT WITHOUT NEEDING VALIDATION. THAT RAW SENSE OF DISCOVERY AND IMPERFECTION IS WHAT WE NEED TO PROTECT."
