This song is about being in an over demanding relationship (several actually) and finally gaining the courage to walk away. In the past, I've felt the need to be my partners "perfect person", always putting their needs above my own. This has only led to my own suffering and eventual resentment of the other person. This dynamic can occur in any type of relationship, romantic, plutonic, even family. It takes a lot of healing and acceptance to arrive at a place in which you can truly walk away or at least confidently set your own firm healthy boundaries. It is a long, constant, and often ungraceful process to reach a point in one's life where you can truly recognize the ineffable value of yourself and your energy. It's not easy and I often find myself taking several steps backwards before moving forward. They say time heals all, but really it's time and A LOT of intentional healing work that heals.
