Among a sea of heavy bass, and autotune it is rare to find a versatile, talented crooner with a voice that can carry a song on its own.  Up and coming independent music artist, D. Bell, a Washington, DC native, is making noise on the music scene, and he is not playing fair! From his effortless falsetto to his commanding intonation, D. Bell’s voice is captivating and authentic. The makings of this man have culminated into the budding artist he is today, and through his music, he endeavors to create timeless songs that will resonate for years to come.

This charismatic crooner’s passion for music began at Brookland Union Baptist Church at the age of 7. After being asked countless times to perform solos in his church choir, he knew that his voice had the capacity to touch the souls of those who listened. He continued to hone in and nurture his talents while attending Dematha Catholic High School located in Hyattsville, MD by taking vocal lessons and becoming a member of Voices of Dematha. It was D. Bell’s talent that afforded him the opportunity to attend Hampton University on a full Music Performance Scholarship. During his academic years in school, D. Bell also played basketball for Dematha Catholic High School and Hampton University.

As is the case with many artists, life experiences both good and bad have contributed to D. Bell’s authenticity and ability to weave a story into his lyrics. He attributes this to the mistakes, and lessons he has learned over the years. When asked about the motivation behind his music he says, “I’ve done a lot of dumb stuff.  I’ve made a lot of poor decisions though I knew right from wrong and so now that I’m able to understand that and I’m coming in to my manhood, I’m welcoming what a man should be, I feel that I can share those things in a way that others can connect with.” As an independent artist, D. Bell pours himself into every piece of music he creates through his songwriting skills, and ability to insert those “money” notes in the perfect places. These abilities coupled with his range and true gift to sing with or without accompaniment, effortlessly sets him apart from other artists.

The combination of those gifts is what brings songs to life, and as of late, his talents landed him 1st place in WPGC’s most recent R&B Live 2.0 competition When asked about the motivation behind his music, he says, “Artists make the music, but they aren’t in tune with the music. Success often takes the reality as well as the struggle out of the song, and that’s what people connect to in music.  People want to hear something real that they can relate to in their own personal journeys through life., Through my music I will remain authentic and never lose myself.” His songs embody the story of his life to include his personal struggles, trials, relationships, tribulations, and joys that have been present in his life. Being a father to his son and daughter, Darius M. Bell III and Naomi Bell, has been the ultimate motivator for  him to continue on his journey in music. His commitment to staying true to himself while making songs that are relatable, melodic, and appealing is what puts him in a class of his own. His debut album “A Mind of My Own” is set for release January 2018.
