When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro," and our second release is proving to be the sort of acid ridden, industrial nightmare journey to the heart of dystopia that only Dr Thompson could possibly have conjured. 

Hamburg duo Fallbeil kick things off with a crunchy acid monster that twists and turns and burns  with an unhinged energy. This is followed by two killer proto-techno cuts from legendary French industrial band Die Form from their 1985 tape Hurt, tracks which have never appeared on vinyl before. Here we find ourselves in an unsettling scenario with metallic voices scowling over clanging machines in a cracked up way that makes John Carpenter seem like afternoon tea with your mum. The mysterious Slugbug (who recently released on L.I.E.S. and Russian Torrent Versions) starts the flip with "GOBACK”, a creeping acidic beast with it's head down, moving unstoppably forward as a reverberating voice ripples throughout. Any calm is then shattered by IBM a.k.a. Mathematics boss Jamal Moss whose remix of Die Form hammers home a tough seven minutes of mangled synths, bubbling acid and thundering drums. 

Once again everything is in plain sight.

On the A-side of this latest CY installment we have the Dutch electronic new school versus the old school with Volition Immanent and Zombies Under Stress. The grimacing visage of Volition Immanent, an intense live act made up of Parrish Smith and Mark Van de Maat (Knekelhuis) kick things off. Behind rawkish distortion, splintered beats and acrid bars screams a boiled anger; a track spitting on the divides of punk and electronics. Nastiness is taken up a notch as noise ne'er-do-wells Zombies Under Stress take over. Started in 1984 as a one man project mixing Industrial, electronic, multimedia and improvisation, Zombies Under Stress is not a band, it's a project. With them static is bent and doubled across thick chords and collapsed claps in the 1986 "Maan Zal Zijn" before the raw and raging battery of "In Onze Tijd." L.I.E.S. regular Svengalisghost grapples with "Maan Zal Zijn, channeling the original's rage into a mechanical monster. The 12" is bookended with bite as Mark Forshaw (Tabernacle/Berceuse Heroique) closes with the tortured and torrential thump of "Submission".

Bulldozing into being, Novacom arrives into this world with the bellowing bass and distorted dirge of “Outsiders”. Downwards Records derelict JK Flesh (a.k.a. Justin Broadrick of Napalm Death/Godflesh/Techno Animal) keeps the beats boiling, drums and synths dipped in detritus and distortion. The flip is dedicated to French brutalist act Le Syndicat. The grunting, shunting “Maximalist” from 1993 roars static and synthesizer strychnine scratch and burn before the bent and buckled 80s “Prothesis Pack Xtra 08”. Ekman (Panzerkreuz/Berceuse Heroique) is on hand to close. 303 jumper cables are applied to “Maximalist”, pound and squawk pouring salt into speaker wounds.

Murray CY from Glasgow runs the Contort Yourself imprint thus far over the last three years he's been releasing compilation 12 inches bridging the gap between the old and the new with records featuring artists like Die Form, Broken English Club, Beau Wanzer, Pankow, Esplendor Geometrico, and Enrique to name a few. The sixth compilation of mutated machine music centres around British industrial pioneers Nocturnal Emissions. The group hack out two thick cuts of oil soaked savagery. Gears crunch and chains clatter as drum machines are minced and mangled for Demon Circuits Bloodbath before the reduced and removed bitterness of Even the Good Times are Bad. L.I.E.S. main man Ron Morelli under the guise of U-202 takes on the static of the '83 original, lonesome rhythms fired into a gaping hollow of echo and decay. There is brief respite, very brief, coming in the haunted strings of Penelope's Fiance. Torrent grinds this short break into dust with EXE 2 Blueprint, a sludge stomper drowned in distortion and dripping with distress. Innsyter (L.A. Club Resource), aka Seixlack, calls time with the hazy house bottle smasher; think fog machines and bodies in the dark and you're getting close.

Contort Yourself is extremely proud to present a double LP of original 80s underground cassette music.

A buffet of beaten up and brutalised tracks are on offer from unknown outfits and respected experimenters. Across two LPs expect to find noise reductions, post punk bitterness, no wave grunts, distortion soaked strings and vocals lost in a hail of pain. A road map into the weird and wild world of DIY back alley artists who, armed with only a tape and an idea, gave the established music norms a sharp fist to the throat.
