Andy Toth casts a long shadow in the Detroit scene. From being co-founder of the Detroit Grand Pubahs to working as an engineer and mixer, he’s worked on so many records that you know but in his egoless way, didn’t know he was part of. Being the co-author of “Sandwiches” took him around the world, but more importantly it was the hold music for Mudgie’s, a legendary Detroit Deli run by another long standing denizen of the Detroit underground, Greg Mudge. Greg Mudge was a true pillar of our techno community in Detroit, from showing us the venue for the first leaky roof No Way Back, to throwing his own events and supporting great people. One of those people was Andy Toth, who he was constantly pressuring to release his music, and this became a major theme of Greg Mudge’s memorial.  When Greg suddenly passed last September, some friends came in to DJ his memorial like Derek Plaslaiko. When it was Andy Toth’s turn he played only his own productions and we were all just so blown away. Mudgie was always asking Andy “what’s up with those tracks?” And this record is the answer,  a testament to that thought, and to the deeply layered and detailed work of Andy Toth. Andy has created a uniquely dense Detroit Sci Fi trip through sound, with elements of acid, electro, techno that result in an advanced and mature adventure in sound, reflecting his roots in the Detroit scene, but pushing it into new hypnotic futures, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

For this 185th Premiere of 2022, we have a track by the Norwegian DJ/Producer Liðvarð aka DJVLR titled ‘Amenacid’ from the forthcoming VA EP "Almost Everywhere" on a new label based in Valencia (Spain) : Tensor Norm.

Tensor Norm is an spanish label founded by Mario Ortega (Wavelet) and Eduardo Jiménez (Sigma_ALgebra) whose objective is to edit electronic dance music that is situated in the fuzzy boundaries of the electro, IDM and techno genres among others. The search for new sounds, dark atmospheres and breaks are its sign of identity.

The EP will be available from September 30, 2022 on 12" Limited Edition Vinyl (300 copies) + Digital through all major digital music stores and streaming platforms.

Tensor Norm is back. In this ocassion, we visit differents locations of the world geography to bring you an EP full of electro, breaks, acid and IDM.

Side A goes into the coordinates of dark electro in different ways. "Cell Reprogramming" by Clone Theory (one of its members is Heuristic Audio) is a spatial track with smooth percussion, a heavy, oscillating bassline and minimal melodic design. On "Automorphism", Sigma_ALgebra resorts to smooth percussion and a drone-like oscillating bassline to generate a floating feel, over which choppy, lightning-like melodic profiles occur. Finally, north american LectrO cOd-E, speeds up the tempo to expose the military round bass, synth twitches and vocoder transmissions of “Morphology”.

Side B is incided in borderline spaces with the incorporation of acid sounds as main elements. After an opening that programs the rhythmic structure and adds pad atmosphere, "Amenacid" by Liðvarð aka DJ VLR ratchets up the tension through a brief acid line modified steadily but subtly. The EP closes with "Phanaire Luses", a track with typical IDM resources with which, through the accumulation of bleep-like emissions, acid figures, sparks and amorphous sounds, Jaquarius builds a psychedelic track.

Things hadn't come easy for her, everything she had she'd worked tirelessly for. Since childhood she'd had no help or hand outs; she brought herself up, she was her own parent, teacher, brother and sister. Not many people knew how hard life had been for her in the past, it was something she'd chosen to keep to herself. It wasn't through embarrassment or shame, she was proud of her journey and how she'd got to this point, but she believed that if people were to judge her, it could only be based on the person she was today.

Unrealistic Electronics is a brand new label birthed in Spain. For their first release they've called on some of their favourite music minds to set the tone for what can be expected from their camp in future. The eponymous compilation features 10 tracks from artists across the globe who are exploring the worlds of minimal wave, electro and punk-tinged electronics. Each artist brings their own distinct take on these raw, DIY sounds including the likes of Florian Kupfer, Das Ding, Beau Wanzer, Maoupa Mazzocchetti and Anna Funk Damage.

Today the invisible grey cloud hung thick over her head, refusing to move no matter how hard she willed it. The thought of stepping into the outside world felt like an impossible task, she'd prefer to bury her head under the covers and sleep the day away until she woke up no longer feeling like this, but that had never worked for her before. Even so, though there were times it felt as if there were no escape, ultimately there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

Terra Magic are back with their third release, Axisdance, a various artists compilation that calls on their talented friends from around the world. Coming on a double 12", the release features music from the likes of Poly Chain, Mogwaa, Jacques Satre, Jai and Rambal Cochet, among others, and oscillates from driving trance-tinged rhythms and hypnotic, twinkling electro to sludgy, crawling acid and heavy break beat cuts. Every track has its own flavour but together they form a carefully-curated package that'll take you on a trip to the cosmos.

Forget To Remember and Yet Remember To Forget

There's a good bunch of intense, dark and extreme, grinding electro-techno gems on the "Raval Rave Breakers" first compilation. While Boris Divider's 'Collapsed Cluster' recalls of the more clinical approach of labels like Raster-Noton, Eel manages to deliver a fresh mix of styles on 'Sraight Edge', where Old Skool Breakbeat and EBM draw an unforgettable match made in heaven. Last track on the A side comes from Classicworks boss Neuhen, but is Patricia (Opal Tapes, Spectral Sound) who remixes it: in "Supress" we can find all the magic tricks of the NYC based producer: eery atmospheres, gently distorted drums and a warm feeling of cozyness. On the flip, RNXRX delivers "Aktion Intertia", one of the most psychedelic jams he's ever did: an industrial acid track as catchy as it can be. Oakland's "Heroine From The North" sounds a bit like when New Beat became faster and more agressive, being mixed with styles like EBM and trance.
