Neem nu, stel je voor, een mens, jijzelf, met jouw stoffelijke lichaam, met je psychologische ondergronden, je verstand, je voelen, totaal, compleet jij. Deze complete mens is als een bol, hard, niet vervormbaar. De bol is gegroeid als een parel: telkens zet een nieuwe laag zich af op het oude oppervlak, elk nieuw oppervlak iets verder verwijderd van het middelpunt. Wat je ‘ik’ noemt is de buitenkant, het huidige buitenoppervlak van de bol: een oneindige verzameling punten, elk precies even ver verwijderd van het middelpunt....
