" Aranjuez Mon Amour " is a 1967 adaptation by Richard Anthony of The Concierto de Aranjuez, a composition for classical guitar and orchestra by Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo (1939). Rodrigo wanted his work to capture " the fragrance of magnolias , the singing of birds, and running fountains " of the gardens of Aranjuez ( Madrid). Some have thought that Rodrigo’s composition had been inspired by the bombing of Guernica in 1937. Several artists have covered Richard Anthony’s song, including Amalia Rodrigues (1967) and Nana Mouskouri (1994). Amália da Piedade Rodrigues Rebordão (1920-1999) is a Portuguese singer and actress. She was nicknamed « the Queen of Fado ». Fado is a Portuguese musical genre that takes the form of a sad song usually accompanied by plucked string instruments. Fado songs are usually about imperfect love, jealousy, death and nostalgia of the past, the difficulty of living, grief, or exile. The word fado comes from the Latin word Fatum , which means "fate."
