Now who is Raheen “Shoestring” Peterson?
Shoestring is a rapper that grew up on the grimy streets of Flint; MI. where hustlers hustled and dealers dealt.  Shoestring could have easily got caught up in this way of life.  Growing up on the city’s north side, Shoestring was raised in the 5th Ward on the corner of Bonbright Street and the very well known block; Dayton Avenue. Most people on Dayton Avenue grew up to be pimps, prostitutes, drug users, con artists and killers but Shoestring wasn’t a follower, he was a leader who had bigger plans for his music career. 
Shoestring’s favorite rap artists are Run DMC, LL Cool J, Scarface, NWA and 2 Pac. The entertainers that inspired him the most to make music were Michael Jackson, Prince and The Temptations. 
Shoestring began his rap career by performing in local talent shows. When Shoestring was in elementary school he didn’t get awards for perfect attendance or grades. Instead, he got awards for being the best performer. In Middle School, Shoestring won his 1st talent show in spite of people saying rappers couldn’t win. Shoestring proved them wrong. 
Shoestring used to sneak and stay up late on school nights listening to DJ Mojo in the Morning and The Wizard. Shoestring began his rap career with a producer named Mark Taylor who introduced him to Bernard Terry who mixes all well known artists out of Flint, MI, such as the late MC Breed (RIP), Ready for the World, Top Authority, The Dayton Family and many more. From that point, Shoestring connected with his cousin Cory Peterson who then introduced him to another great producer; Steve Pitts. Who would have known that this relationship would grow to different heights? Shoestring then recorded 2 solo albums with Steve Pitts that never dropped because Shoestring’s brother; Tyreese Peterson and his friend; Eric Dorsey had an argument about whose brother was the best rapper. Tyreese and Shoestring set up a meeting with Eric and Ira Dorsey. Shoestring and Tyreese walked around the corner to 131 E. Taylor St. where Shoestring had a radio in his hand ready to play his music to Ira Dorsey. After Shoestring played his music, he would beat box the base line as Ira Dorsey rapped. The base line that Shoestring beat boxed would later become the base line to the great anthem Dope Dayton Ave.  The verse that Ira spit to Shoestring’s beat box became the real first verse to the song Dope Dayton Ave. Shoestring and Ira hit it off right from jump and decided to collaborate and form a group. After the 1st meeting, Shoestring set up several studio sessions and Ira missed them all so Shoestring went back to 131 E. Taylor Street and told Ira’s mother he won’t set up another studio session with Ira. 
Later, Ira came to Shoestring and told him to set up another studio session and promised not to miss it. Ya’ll know what happened next, history was made. Shoestring and Ira Dorsey also known as Bootleg, dropped their first song together; Dope Dayton Ave. Shoestring introduced Bootleg to Steve Pitts, Bootleg introduced Shoestring to Matthew Hinkle also known as Backstabba and a national well known legendary group was created; The Dayton Family. The Dayton Family dropped their first gold selling album called What’s on my Mind that was written by Gemini X. The first single off that album; Going Through a Thang was played on BET and MTV but never to tour because the group had ongoing legal problems. The next album; FBI would be even bigger, selling a total of 900,000 records and still selling to this day. The Dayton Family once again ran into legal problems because Backstabba was indicted by the Feds and went to prison for 10 years, Bootleg also went to prison off and on for a total of 7 years. 
Today, Shoestring just released his 3rd solo album; Fix My City, it’s a new day and a new journey for him, so check it out. Dayton Family for life. Thank you to God and my fans for all your support.
