The latest installment in our free download series welcomes Nicolas Rada for his third appearance. Upon beginning his career in 2007, Nicolas quickly became a favourite of Hernan Cattaneo where his original productions and private remixes become a staple in the sets of the storied DJ. Hailing from Buenos Aires, the Argentinean artist eventually found a home on Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden and Eelke Kleijn’s Days Like Nights where his groovy progressive sound has flourished. 2017 proved to be a breakout year, highlighted by his first remix collaboration with Nick Warren, where the duo reworked Upercent’s ‘Pulsacions’ to both critical and commercial success. Now frequent studio partners, Nicolas and Nick have continued to build a strong studio synergy showcasing their original material on Nick’s The Soundgarden imprint while also recording a string of impressive remixes for Get Physical, Monday Social Music, Proton Music and Timeless Moment. On the solo front, Nicolas has also continued to prosper with an appearance on Patrice Buamel’s GU Berlin compilation, along with original projects for Sudbeat Music and TRYBESof. Having first appeared on our free download series with his hugely sought-after remake of Bjork’s ‘Mutual Core’ in 2019 and then again in 2020 with an equally large rendition of Underworld’s ‘Cowgirl’, we’re happy to welcome Nicolas back with a huge interpretation of the Depeche Mode classic ‘Precious’. Initially remixed by progressive house icons Sasha and Spooky in 2005, Nicolas now brings a new perspective to the track which has been championed by John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. After months of requests from electronic music fans we’re now happy to offer it as an exclusive free download. Enjoy!

Watergate Records unveils its latest signing, as emerging Shanghai-based producer Final Request joins the label family.

The enigmatic artist broke through by winning a remix competition held by the Afterlife-signed KA:AST in 2020, before going on to impress with productions on Black Rose Recordings, Atlant and Oddity. Holding fans in high places, his music was championed by everyone from Solomun to Tale of Us and Adriatique, before quickly finding it soundtracking Tomorrowland and Awakenings, no less. Last year’s ‘Fallen Enemies’ EP on Diynamic earned an Essential New Tune on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show and he’s followed that up strongly with ‘Alter Ego’ and then ‘Unmasked’ in collaboration with Fur Coat, coming on Stil Vor Talent and Global 
Underground respectively.

Needless to say, his Watergate Records debut feels perfectly timed. Introduced to the club by Ruede Hagelstein, Final Request impressed recently during his club debut at Watergate playing alongside Agents of Time and JAMIIE.

‘By Your Side’ is made for big festival moments and built around a strong male vocal lead that highlights the track. A versatile composition that can work in a range of melodic techno, trance and prog scenarios. ‘The Lost Hawk’ is punchier and more dynamic, as full-bodied bass works in tandem with top-end chords to carry the emotion throughout. A stellar track!

Notably, the track "Moonlanding" achieved the highest sales on the label in 2023. For the remixes of this track, Murguia & Proler were invited to lend their creative touch, while the "Origin" track received remix treatments from Javier Román and Emma Lemus.

Junjo Records launches its first release with a four-track VA crafted by Berger, Le Fred, lerg, and Niclas. Produced in their shared studio in Bern, this EP marks the start for their newly founded record label. Butyrum opens with warm, mysterious tones and hypnotic rhythms — a gentle invitation into the groove. Oxytocin follows with playful energy, driven by vibrant synths and crisp percussion. My rework of his own rework of his classic 'Alien (Hold On To Your Dreams)', his own beautiful homage to the immigrant story of America. His re-recorded version was part of the posthumous 'Nothing New' compilation that XL Recordings released in 2014, featuring recordings from 2008 of some of his favourite works. I think that version of 'Alien' is so much more powerful than the original, the pain of the lyrics amplified by his then-gruffed-up voice. And it's a message we can all get behind right now particularly I think.
