Ah yes, I had a Prinz 'shoebox' cassette recorder and recorded from a massive old valve radio my granddad gave me. It had a massive speaker and Peel ounded godlike on it, but there was no way to connect the two other than proximity, resulting in recordings exactly like this :) Fast forward to 1982 and I got a Sharp GF-555 (Duck Duck Go it!) for my birthday... that was a great day indeed. I still have it!

I've got tapes like this in my cassette horde. They sound great to me! I wouldn't trade 'em for anything.

Forget your digitally remastered CDs and 180g vinyl - this is what punk really sounded like at the time.
These John Peel sessions were recorded in 1977 from a tinny transistor radio onto the cheapest Boots C60 tape using a budget microphone and a portable cassette player.
As a 13/14 year old, this was the only affordable way to hear much of this stuff, and many of the songs were yet to be released officially.
The sound quality is dreadful - loads of wow, flutter, hiss and distortion - but that's the way we heard these tunes back then.
