Where is the Moon? is commissioned by the Sofia Philharmonic Orhcestra, and it is a part of my portfolio for Royal Northern College of Music's Master of Music program.

Since 2019, I have started composing works with titles referring to the moon; each composition has different instrumentation comprising solo and chamber settings. Among these works, The Dance
of the Eclipse marks a beginning in my compositional style, representing a new way of understanding structure and timbre. It also embodies specific stylistic fingerprints that persist in my music to the present day. In many respects, Where is the Moon? draws inspiration from previous
works, such as compositional style, emphasis on Eastern imageries, and the exploration of traditional poetic content.

The opening section is a set of variations played by different wind instruments, then contend against a pallet of brass sonorities. The mood is to create a sense of bleakness that dramatises the muscular brass section. Starting from rehearsal D, the music arrives at this dreamy atmosphere, rendering the section a flowing character. The macho rehearsal E provides the climactic moment of the work. Up till this point, the ensemble is finally used at its full strength. Nevertheless, it is not a grand tutti that epitomises the music. Rather, it is a falling gesture that brings the music back to the beginning - a soloistic passage.
