I have a powerful and moving story to share with you.

Terry and Paula Bullent have lived a life touched by art, by teaching, and by a kind of creative partnership that leaves a mark on the people around them. Terry unfortunately now has advanced stages of Parkinson’s.

Paula, has written the most beautiful poem about their relationship. She has poured so much emotion and clarity into a poem about their shared journey… that alone is extraordinary.

I felt that spark strongly enough to translate it into music — to give her words another life, another medium, another way for people to feel what she expressed. 

As an act of care, friendship, and artistic respect. Collaborating with Ethan M. and giving it that John Farnham-style production, we believe we have created something truly stirring.

The final piece carries the weight of a lifetime, the fragility of the present moment, and the strength of a bond that endures through it all.

The tape documents the first concert (29.09.2024) of TNL, the unorthodox alliance between the uncompromising DJ and Perf label-boss Tendency (Tiago Carneiro) and the sound trickster Nuno Loureiro. The duo's sound palette stems from Tendency's extended vinyl collection: spanning the whole gamut of futuremaniacal hardcore continua from braindance & techno to more abstract & ambient styles. But, before the sound of his own divergent mixes make it out to the speakers, Loureiro inserts himself into the signal path, processing & manipulating the result. At times, the sound design of Loureiro is subtle & restrained; at others, it completely reconfigures the source materials—to pull out alternative beats & spatial dimensions—that were already twisted into something else by Tendency's skillful ear.

TNL is a project that questions the everything-at-your-fingertips nature of today's music ecosystem. Why not create non-sampledelic music out of samples? By simultaneously reimagining both the DJ set & the live set—a binary opposition that helps foster those vicious capitalist models of the music industry where DJs get pressured into the release of (ghost) productions to bolster up their profiles with originals—TNL offer a danceable egress. Not merely remixes nor reinterpretations, the set moves into & out of zones of recognition. With TNL everything happens twice-removed. Like a four-handed piano piece, things happen here that would not be possible in a two-handed configuration. 

The live set takes place at Donau, a Luso-Austrian café that is a refuge for the experimental scene situated in & passing through Porto. Clocking in a just under an hour, the sonic territories traversed are many. We cross regions that would set-off any club, but also others that ask for more of a pensive modality. As TNL's first, this is just the start.

This track is a timeless ode to the journey of life, learned and lived in unity. From the garden where love is sown to the laughter that paints the sky, it portrays life as a shared melody carried on the wind. The song honours the unbreakable chain of human connection—a circle of love that remains through seasons, conquers years between tears and joy, and holds dreams close under the guidance of a million stars, crafting handcrafted memories into an infinite, echoing story.
