The flying spiders are "orb weavers" called Joro spiders, and they are common in China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. If was an army of guys in rubber monster suits, THEN you could blame Japan.

Oak Ridge was a net power loss in WWII even though it had a nuclear plant, because what they had was an "atomic pile" and not a reactor; slugs of uranium were turned into plutonium through close contact by being stuck in a graphite kiln by workers with long leaded rods. After sitting in there for a predetermined time, the rodmen pushed them out into a narrow water trough below and they were collected. The UK Windscale site was the same thing. Until the fire in 1957.....
