An experimental track with obscure horns, bells, and strings on top of an orchestral drum morphs into 'funky drummer' beat with the bass/synth carrying the progression (the guitar track is just a whicka whacka funk lick).  The bridge is the most interesting part, as it's carried by the drums and bells.  Made for a now deceased female singer who had a Bjork vibe to her voice.  Uploaded for vocalist to try as backing track.

It's a eclectic mix of orchestral and soul/funk elements.  Basically there's a verse, chorus and bridge tied together for a singer to play with to find hooks.  It probably would need background vocals as well as a remix if anyone wants to use it.  The bridge break using Bass orchestral section stabs rather than traditional horns is my favorite part, but the progression isn't bad.

Ummmm.... When I was making this, I sat down and said to myself, "I'm living in Oz (Australia), I should feature some uniquely Aussie element in this composition.  I know!!  A Didgeridoo!!!"  I guess I hadn't gotten enough sleep that month or something.  But it turned out pretty good.  Aside from the Didgeridoo, the guitar, piano, and horns are Cuban samples... the percussion is all Brazilian, including Carnival whistles, as well as some other elements.  The only thing Australian is the Didgeridoo jam, which I should probably credit, but lost a long, long time ago.

I actually did this for the Merman from The Mighty Boosh with the mixed up downstairs (and Detroit accent) because the shows Funk satire cracked me up.  So it's basic verse, chorus, bridge, break elements for a Funk song without the backup or lead vocals; each element is several measures too long on purpose.  A very spare and simple upload... (synth/bass, waka waka guitar, percussion, and a couple minor wrinkles for flavor:  the genre's fixtures without any toppings.  Sort of like Funk cheese pizza maybe?).

I've been stripping lead and backup vocals off of other tracks, so I thought I'd upload a couple of very very very raw songs.  (Yes, that's Mark Stewart, the songwriter's real voice!).  He writes very flexible and hooky stuff, and philosophically opposes copyrights, so take what you like...

Another song written by Mark Stewart (circa 2001?).  Here's his vocal, his brother singing an ad hoc harmony, and an over driven guitar.  Like the other upload, this shouldn't be mistaken for a produced or mixed or etc.  If anyone like it, it's yours as Mark wrote the song for the Public Domain (obviously he'd like a 'thank you'!).  The 'sad kitten' style songs Mark writes are.... well, 'Sad Kitten' songs!  (maybe this is 'Cynical Kitten'?)

My Hero is Superman

Songwriter Mark Stewart is on vocals.  This and other songs of his are available in the Public Domain as a political/ethical statement, so if anyone likes the basic melody or etc.  feel free to use it.  If you'd like the transcription, ask.

I'm a former documentary filmmaker and producer.  I've lived all over the world, including but not limited to: Detroit, NYC, Rio, Tokyo, Helsinki, Ireland (Dublin/Belfast), Dhaka, and Oz (Australia).  I've been a musician and a computer dork since I was a kid.  Sadly learning to speak half a dozen languages hasn't made me demonstrably more mature, but I do think I'm a better musician for having lived as a stranger in many, many strange lands.
