Nightjar (Caprimulgus europaeus)

Recording of a shore crab in a rockpool near Achmelvich in the NW Highlands. I had no idea what this was initially.  I was surprised how loud it was until I realised I had inadvertently let the mic settle on top of the poor beast which was hiding under some fronds of kelp! It does pay to get close to your subject!

Pluie de moustiques - Rain of mosquitoes
Réveil sous la tente au bord d'un lac en Finlande. Mes oreilles me disent qu'il pleut alors que mes yeux m'annoncent un beau soleil. L'énigme va vite se résoudre : c’est le son d’une « pluie » de moustiques qui se cognent sur la toile de la tente.
Early morning, camping on a Finnish lakeside. It sounds like it’s raining yet it’s clearly a sunny day : turns out it’s just ‘raining mosquitoes’, hammering on the tent.

Sur le Mont Lozère à 1600 m rencontre, un peu inhabituelle à cette altitude, avec une Vipère péliade (Vipera berus) qui siffle pour bien signifier qu'elle n'apprécie pas cette rencontre.

Uphill - 2009 relic

Avec le retour du gel je veille au remplissage de nos mangeoires, et en ces jours de grand froid j'ai même ajouté des guirlandes de cacahuètes. La Mésange bleue (Cyanistes caeruleus) n'en revient pas. 
The frost has returned so I make sure our feeders are full;  with temperatures below freezing these last few days,  I’ve even added homemade peanut strings. The Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) can't believe it.
