BSV: Hello Bethany! Same importance to you for beats as painting?
BETHANY ROSE: That answer is a hard yes. The two definitely feed each other. I need music to help get me to that flow state when I paint and I need to experience that flow state to carry over into my music. It’s all about flow state.

BSV: You have decided to share with us the mixtape that you recorded for Defected Records ‘’Unsung Heroes’’ competition. Quality involved, you could have won. Disappointed?
BETHANY ROSE: Thank you. I love this mix. There a lot of my soul in there. I am a little disappointed. I even submitted a very kind letter of recommendation from one of my hero’s Julius Papp.

BSV: Music vibrations = healing. Any methodologies in treatment?
BETHANY ROSE: I love reiki and binaural beats. There is a lot of healing to be had there. I was watching this thing the other day about 42 hz frequency and how if our F was tuned to it our experience with music could be taken to another level. But, yes! Music = healing.

BSV: You are from the Bay Area. What describes your sound and how special it is in relation to the area you come from?
BETHANY ROSE: The Bay Area does have a thriving House music scene. That’s for sure. It’s also a beautiful place geographically. I think the environment of the Bay Area has had an impact on the shape of my downtempo to deep house to nu disco groovy vibe. People out here tend to be real music lovers. It’s nice to play to a crowd who appreciates it.

BSV: What’s your connection between murals and deep house music?
BETHANY ROSE: If I were to draw a connection it would be that both have the ability to completely transform an environment.

BSV: Last track in this mixtape is such a nice treat from the past. Is there any particular reason for including that one?
BETHANY ROSE: Yeah! That one is such a fun way to end a set. It’s such a good throw back. The lyrics say it all too. My best friend, who is also an incredible dj and music aficionado, @DJBARDIA, gave that song to me to use to close out a part with. I had to use it to close out this very special mix.

BSV: Are you a music mage?
BETHANY ROSE: Hahaha! Mage? Well I guess we all cast spells in different ways. My favorite sets do tend to be early sets. They give a dj the opportunity to set the mood for the whole party. I like to approach it as if I’m gradually beginning to fill the air with my tunes. The idea is to give people a chance to settle in, greet each other, feel out the space for themselves. There is definitely some magic in that.

BSV: Hello Teo! You shared with us a very atmospheric 3 hours mixtape. Quite experimental sound... Do we have your approval on this diagnose?
TEO TRUNK: Hey, first of all thanks for having me, I really enjoyed recording this mixtape for you! I guess some parts sound as malfunctioning water heater. So if that fits in "experimental"... Jokes aside, lot of it is just from my daily background playlists for when I’m reading, designing etc. 

BSV: Some of these tracks are from early 2010’s. There is no doubt that you have a massive collection in your trunk. Right?
TEO TRUNK: Haha, to be honest, besides the newer stuff from last month or two I really don't know release dates of 90% of my music collection. Just a lot of random playlists on youtube, soundcloud, spotify and few old usb drives from when I used to play music. Never obsessed with playing the latest tune.

BSV: If we do etymology search (origin) of your last name, we find a very interesting information. Familiar with that?
TEO TRUNK: Long story is about relocation of Serbs from Dalmatia and Lika, and not wanting to change religion, so surnames of families were changed to be more colourful. Fun, short story, is about my great grandfather who was popular with the ladies of his village for his "trunk", so the last name stuck with the family for that trait.

BSV: You are an audio engineer with almost a decade of experience in sound and web design. Is it important for electronic music producer (composer) to have a formal educational background in terms of sound quality? 
TEO TRUNK: I studied Art History and Digital Multimedia, but I never got a degree, so I don't think I am the right person to talk about formal education. That "almost a decade of experience" line is a killer on LinkedIn, haha. But actually most of that time I was doing graphic design and experimenting with web and sound design in my spare time. Lots of trials and errors, learning in the process. It's only last few years that I got a chance to work as a sound designer for video games and as a mixing engineer on a TV station recently. Everything I know about audio l had luck to learn from my dear friend and mentor Vladan Jarić Pion. So I don't think formal education is necessary for anything these days, especially for such an elusive term as sound quality. Music is about the feeling. There is too much mediocre music whit "great sound quality".

BSV: As a pop music passionate, is it hard to offer your service to a native market?
TEO TRUNK: I wouldn't know where to start. I prefer making sounds for creatures in video games, I’m not sure I would be any good with real life ones.

BSV: Do you enjoy in your Artists & Repertoire activities?
TEO TRUNK: Lots of fun from that experience, but last time I did A&R work was back in 2017. I guess that is still somewhere on my facebook page.

BSV: Favourite artist at this moment?
TEO TRUNK: Caldera

Episode 033 & Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina based Dario Suerte (@dario-suerte), interview below:

BSV: Hello Dario! The concept of these guest mixes is to alternate artists from native speaking area and artists across the planet in order to spread the common “worldwide” vibe. You've been on electronic music scene for a long time. Are you aware that hardly anyone in the Balkans knows about you?
DARIO SUERTE: Hi, and thanks for having me on your show. Yes, it’s been a while since I first started releasing music, but I haven’t really given much thought to the fact that I’m basically anonymous in the Balkans concerning the whole electronic music scene. I guess I’m kind of a quiet guy, not really active on social media so it’s quite easy to go under the radar that way, but I can’t really say that it’s a good thing because you really need to be pushy to leave your mark in this line of work. Perhaps my approach to music is different because I don’t consider this work at all. It’s all about your inner-self, your emotions, state of mind, hopes and dreams, it’s part of who you are and not what you do. I did a couple of ex-yu remixes recently and posted them on youtube and got a really positive feedback. So I guess my Balkan fanbase is just starting to grow.

BSV: Please describe the feeling when you rendered your first track and when was that?
DARIO SUERTE: Like I said, it’s been quite a while since I started experimenting with music, but my first official release was back in 2008 under the alias Effective Thief. Being accepted to your first label and having your track released to the world is a unique experience, like the first time when you score a goal as a kid, or graduate from high school. It’s definitely a milestone in a musicians life.

BSV: Favorite effect? Is that filter?
DARIO SUERTE: This is a tough question. It really depends on the mood and genre of the track, but if I were to pick something out of the effects bundle I’d definitely say reverb and delay. There’s just some mystical feeling to the synth or drum you play when you add some of these two effects to them.

BSV: You were quite productive in last few months. Inspiration comes from?
DARIO SUERTE: Yes, I’ve had maybe 5 or 6 releases in the last couple of months. I mostly draw my inspiration from introspection. I enjoy daydreaming, deep conversations over wine, losing myself in music, nature, and having a positive outlook on life, so I guess I can say that I’m content with myself and my life in general. I tend to see beauty in everything and everything is inspirational to me…

BSV: How was this mix recorded?
DARIO SUERTE: During my previous years of DJ-ing I’ve experimented with various genres and styles of electronic music, but honestly I’ve always been loyal to the deeper sides of house music. So, I usually spend some of my free time to search for underground deep tech house, minimal, and deep tech tunes and do a mix session at home.

BSV: So, emotions guide you in production and mixing?
DARIO SUERTE: Yes, it’s a way of expressing my inner-self and parts of my mind and soul I can’t express with words and actions. It’s like peeking through a window and having a look at the hidden side of me.

BSV: Upcoming “Bliss” release is scheduled for @beatsoundvisions. Why BSV and where did you find us?
DARIO SUERTE: I’ve ran across your music online and had the impression that “Bliss” might work for your label just right. This is the second time I’m having my music released for a Serbian label and I’m really excited about the fact that more people in the Balkans might hear it. Fingers crossed!

BSV: Hi Roberto! As listeners, we can assume that you are a very experienced DJ. Is that true?
ROBERTO BARTOLINI: Hi, thanks for hosting me in the BSV series, I am very happy! I don't know if I can say I have a great experience, for sure I have a solid base. I started mixing when I was sixteen, seventeen years old with Technics sl-1200 turntables and after a short time I started working as a DJ in clubs in the middle of the Adriatic coast having been born in San Benedetto del Tronto. I followed this path until I started my university studies (quite late). Two years ago during the lockdown period due to the Covid pandemia I bought a professional console, headphones, two speakers and USB sticks. And here I am!

BSV: Your transitions are just perfect. Tell us more about M series on SoundCloud.
ROBERTO BARTOLINI: Thanks so much for your appreciation on my transitions. The "M" in my series on Soundcloud stands for Master. When I was working in discos in the 80s/early 90s, it was common - and I did too - to duplicate a master magnetic tape with a Teac double cassette recorder for those who requested it. I used to call the matrix tapes "Master", as I do now keeping the initial... I have just passed 50 sets of my series, normally I release every two weeks on Thursday nights. I use the decks, mixer, equalizer and synchro (when it works) to mix without any other effect. I must say that technology today helps for many things. Seeing the track allows me to design an hour-long set in a very short time, I can pin down in some sort of language how the mixes should be done, this allows me to have myself an experience as a listener: the vinyl record is a black object, the possible attachment points are not actually visible, you have to know where they are and you have to count the beats of the musical turn which, depending on the genre, may not be too easy to remember; and finally also to know so much about the mixes to perform that once the master tape is produced I can no longer listen to it... and then the possibility of making some mistakes is always around the corner.

BSV: Lyrics come through your tapes. You are a VOX superfan?
ROBERTO BARTOLINI: Well yes, I like the voice as an instrument, not all, but for example the penultimate track in this session is sung by Lauren L'aimant, who has a very nice voice, I am amazed how such an emotional track can be produced with just a few notes and a single voice.

BSV: It’s not hard to notice that your covers are quite interesting. Are you a graphic designer?
ROBERTO BARTOLINI: No, I am not a graphic designer. Initially I was looking for the cover images simply by association, starting from the favorite track of the set, I searched images using google by continuing to follow links in a sort of situationist drift until I found the right image for me at that moment. From a certain point onwards, in order to give a stylistic continuity to the images, I started to choose the covers from an modern art site, choosing emerging authors in general but also some established ones.

BSV: Have you ever thought about going into music production?
ROBERTO BARTOLINI: No, I do not think I have the ability. In my opinion to make music, although electronic music, you must have a minimal musical background.

BSV: In situation where you have to choose, would you rather pick progressive or deep house sound?
ROBERTO BARTOLINI: I prefer [Melodic] Deep House, especially with very low sounds and slightly disturbing low frequencies, the third to last track (@bakkalive) is an example of this type of sound.

BSV: Where can we hear your mixes in live. Are you a resident of a club?
ROBERTO BARTOLINI: No, I am not. Hopefully one day, I am only 56, it's never too late.... <3

EDUARDO DRUMN: Hello, thank you for the second invitation, yes I feel privileged for this second mixtape, and to bring my music to you.

BSV: Any big changes in your artist life in this period of 20 episodes?
EDUARDO DRUMN: Recognition in some countries where the label has a lot of impact, it served the country of origin, I had a lot of listeners from there.

BSV: You are the owner of a record label @demonotthx. Do these operational tasks take up a lot of your time?
EDUARDO DRUMN: At the moment I'm managing to reconcile production, study, mixing and mastering and management of the label.

BSV: With this session you shared your upcoming track that is scheduled for March. Are you ready for the spring?
EDUARDO DRUMN: Ah yes, this track is really cool, just like me, I hope all listeners on the label enjoy it.

BSV: Material have already been tested and it seems that people love the vibe. Does it mean a lot to you when you hear something like this when it comes to your further creative work?
EDUARDO DRUMN: Yes, I love it when people message me about it, sending videos of the tracks, and I reply to everyone 🙂

BSV: Are you considering the possibility of expanding the base of artists who would publish for your label?
EDUARDO DRUMN: I'm always listening to what they send, some things I listen to a lot to see if it fits the label.

BSV: Big thanks for taking active role in our story! After “Mariposa” and BSV15 your next release is even better & that is hard to imagine.
EDUARDO DRUMN: Thanks for another vote of confidence, and we don't stop there, soon you'll see more news lol, thanks for taking my sound to Serbia!

I'm a retired City Worker from The Brantford Ontario Works Dept of 34 years of service,
I was 9 years old when I started taking drum lessons with the Ontario Conservatory Of Music,
I taught drum lessons and played in a band that played blues, country, 50's, blue grass,
I started making playlists at the age of 12 years old (1975) Pioneer Turntable, Cassette Deck, Receiver & two 50 watt Speakers.
