The Study Group were invited to present a participatory piece for Longplayer Day 2017, a 12-hour peripatetic cross-disciplinary festival on the summer solstice, celebrating the recently announced partnership between Goldsmiths and Longplayer by Jem Finer.

We chose to share 'Welcoming the Light: for a solstice circle', written by Pauline Oliveros in 1996. It is a piece about directions that emphasizes on the one hand the singularity of each direction, whilst also giving you the opportunity to embrace different directions at the same time, in order to, as the score indicates 'find a sort of unity'.

Gathering fortnightly since May 2015, The Study Group is a workshop space dedicated to performing artist Pauline Oliveros' Sonic Meditations: 25 recipes for making sonic experiences that are accessible to people from all ages, with and without musical training.

The workshop generally takes place in London but has occasionally travelled to Madrid, Porto, Margate, St Petersburg, Bristol, Oxford & France. The group are always open to new members and have recently begun to produce their own pieces.
