Broken Shoulder - Hashiridase (kgr012 released December 2016)

Broken Shoulderは、ロンドン出身、東京在住のNeil Debnamのソロプロジェクト。2011年に活動を開始し、Audio Antihero (UK), Tape Your Mouth (UK)、Deathbomb Arc (USA)より作品をリリース。エフェクトペダルのループに乗せた即興音楽を重ね合わせ、独自のLo-Fi ドローンの世界を築いている。
Hashiridaseは、Broken Shoulder の新しいミニアルバムです。収録された３曲は、私がこの半年で録りためた音源をベースに、新たな演奏を加えて作成しました。このアルバムが完成して気づいたのは、「３」の共通点。３曲の収録曲。長さは３０分。使った楽器は、ギター、安物のキーボートとシンセサイザーの３つ。数字の「３」が自分でも気づかないうちに、かくれたテーマになっているようです。１曲目は２曲目の３倍の長さ、３曲目は１曲目の３分の２の長さ。曲の中には、私が東京を歩き回りながら録音したフィールドレコーディングが散りばめられています。リリースは１２月２日。

Broken Shoulder, November 2016

Hashiridase is my new Broken Shoulder mini-album/maxi EP. The basics of three pieces were picked from various recordings that I have done over the last six months or so and then I fleshed them out for this release. There is some kind of difficult to explain thing going on relating to thirds or threes on this release. There are three tracks, running to just under 30 minutes. Each track is dominated by one of the main three instruments I use, guitar, crappy keyboards and synths, so it feels like it represents the three prongs of the Broken Shoulder trident. The first piece is three times as long as the second and the third is two-thirds as long as the first. Hidden away, possibly not particularly sneakily, are field recordings taken around the Tokyo area, a tribute to a hero of mine and a search for the secrets to the future of Broken Shoulder. It will be released at the start of December in order to try to cash in on the Christmas market.

Broken Shoulder November 2016

Broken Shoulder is the one man project of Neil Debnam, originally from London but now based in Tokyo, heavily dependent on looping and budget drones and less reliant on rhythm or melody. Pieces are initially improvised sketches and then augmented for recording but continue to evolve afterwards as they are rejigged for live performances. 

Broken Shoulder has released music on Audio Antihero, Tape Your Mouth and Deathbomb Arc and Kirigirisu Recordings. As ever, thank you to Benjamin Shaw for the wonderful mastering work.
