Natsume Seibi (1749-1816) was the son of a wealthy Edo rice broker and was acquainted with a number of other famous poets, including Oshima Ryota and Kobayashi Issa. In addition to his poetry, Seibi left behind a number of fine examples of haikai prose.

Lazing in shadows,
Conceding the drawing room
to moonrays

When I thought about this haiku, the 'drawing room' made me think  about the place I make music, my music room which I call the blue room as its painted blue.  But as it happens I'm shortly leaving this room so my partner can put her easel up in here and paint where the light (south facing room) is better and I'm moving my music stuff to the north facing side of the house - where I can make music in the gloom!    So this haiku to me seems to sum up my move to a different room in the house, perhaps a change of room will hopefully help my creativity!?

Kaga no Chiyo-jo (1703–1775) was a haiku poet discovered by Kagami Shiko at a very young age. She became a Buddhist nun at 52 and wrote around 1,900 haiku in her lifetime. A highlight of her poetry career was presenting haiku to a Korean delegation in 1763, one of the first cultural exchanges of this kind.
