The Flood (Extended Re-Make_Mitra Mitra)

Reworked version of a piece I composed for the performance I did on August 1. 2020 as an intervention during the collective dismantling & demolition of "Hausfrauendenkmal" * (Monument to Housewives) within "KISS" (an exhibition in public space by Kunsthalle Wien), followed by a procession where its parts were carried to a waste container by the audience.

* a political monument by the artist #MargotPilz from 1979 which was originally presented as a sculpture-action in Graz & had been restaged in Vienna btw. 30.7.-1.8.2020 for KISS / Kunsthalle Vienna.
"The work makes the domestic public, the personal political, and the invisible obvious. Made of several layers of white linen bedclothes that are overlapped, patched together, and fixed around a wooden pole, which is partly held up by a string tied to a tree, the installation looks like a giant fabric cloak enveloping … a void. The used bedsheets represent the entirety of life, from reproduction and care activities to rituals that all humans perform (birth, love, sleep, death). At the same time, they symbolize the reality faced by housewives, the gendered division of labor, and the misrecognition of domestic work."
