I came up with the rolling bassline and the basic idea of the overlaying chords when I took a day trip through central and southern Idaho and witnessed the landscapes of Craters of the Moon and the Snake River Gorge. The final product is somewhat different than how I initially imagined it, but the core idea remains the same.
