05. Mars Storm

Space Disco?  I don't know, as usual.  I must secretly love disco because every few years something like this pops out.

Original idea was done using a Beatstep Pro, then recorded into Ableton Live with the "Selector" drum kit (it sounds fairly grungy).

Rapture 64 (from old version of Cakewalk) on lead synth
I played Fender bass and Squier Jazzmaster guitar

A smashing time was had by all!

The Disco At The End Of The Universe

So I traded in a bunch of unused stuff at Starving Musician and bought a cheap 5 string bass.  This was so exciting I had to write a new tune using it.  

I decided it would be fun to use all 4 of my basses.  So I recorded 8 sections, 2 each with each bass.  The drum patterns were more or less selected at random (XLN Addictive Drummer) as were the riffs.  I did not consciously attempt to stay in one key.  Then I tried to assemble the sections into an order that sounded like it might almost make sense.  Well, some of them work, and some of them... ah... LOL.

In any case, this is more or less how my mind works.  I can come up with different ideas that don't go well together pretty easily.  I got sick of it and decided for once to make them go together whether it was meant to be that way or not.

All played through a SansAmp RPM preamp with a Focusrite Composer compressor in the loop.

Embrace The Chaos

This tune is dedicated to the memory of my neighbor and friend Skip Light who passed away in fall of 2023.  He was irrepressibly outgoing, always ready with a joke and a very talented photographer.  I miss him.
