Cairo-based artist Zeina has been championing women in electronic music through her Unfamilar series of events around Europe and in her adopted base of Egypt. Since its inception, she has welcomed a diverse, yet dedicated list of artist that include Jane Fitz, Lola Haro, Laurine, Vlada, Karine, Julietta, and there are many more to come. If you find yourself in Cairo make sure and look her up wherever she may be performing, but there will be more than just these options to catch this well-travelled selector in action.

With so many influences at play, it is clear that Zeina operates on many different musical levels. This is also especially evident in her InSession mix for us where she moves through many shades and moods that encompass introspective house jams, more wigged-out jazzy moments and a brief stop-off in one of house music's most defining moments.

Would there be an electronic culture and scene in Lisbon without Mary B?
The answer is clearly no. DJing for 22 years, she has played alongside some of the biggest names on the scene, from Thievery Corporation to Laurent Garnier,Zip-I, Daniel Bell... She has also worked in marketing for leading Portuguese radio stations such as Antena 3 and Oxigenio, on which she hosted “Ultraleve” and “Trapézio Voador”, Radar and Marginal for several years. Alongside Joao Maria, the label's boss, she is a founding supporter of Assemble Music and the eponymous events, and is also behind one of Portugal's most important electronic events, Lisb-On Festival. When she is not found performing at clubs across Portugal, or at her own club, Disaster, she greets you with her biggest smile at Collect, her bar/restaurant/radio/records store project, a place of pilgrimage for diggers and connoisseurs of electronic music. Is it really necessary to go on with her CV, or is it already enough for you to understand that Mary B is a real DJ, with all the passion and enthusiasm that implies?
That's why we're proud to invite Mary B to our 570th podcast. As you'll have gathered, with such a musical background, her selection is beyond reproach, perfectly combining the punchy energy of European techno or the subtlety of “Warpian” ambient-electronica with the groove of New York house, all sprinkled with a few melodies from Detroit. There are no scratches or outrageous cuts here, the quality and richness of the track-list standing on its own.In short, there's too much to write about this charismatic character, so it's best to let her music speak for itself. PS: It's worth pointing out that Mariana knows how to surround herself with her fine team of "old ravers" (João Maria, Bernardo Girão, Zé Salvador,...) to bring her various projects to fruition, but this will probably be the subject of future podcasts.
