For many years now the Savage Young Taterbug has wandered America’s hinterlands, bewitching drugstore clerks and gas station attendants with his balladry. “Ragman Transmissions” cobbles together songs he raw-dogged on the road, left in the tape decks of friends and fellow freaks, and abandoned or simply forgot about. A few songs carry on his signature swirl of transistor static and scarecrow spirituals. Others catch him in private, tinkling on the piano and crooning deliciously. Still others are bona fide studio slammers buoyed by thick licks and harmonies. Who knows how many Taterbug tracks still lurk out there, like old jellybeans wedged between cushions. Volume one is our humble effort to round some up and savor their strange flavors.

Porcelain EP by @chloebattelle sails between electronica, minimal techno, and breakbeat. The palette is cinematic - deliberate and enticing with carefully textured synths, organic percussion, and drums anchoring each track. Cycling through tumbling breaks, lush pads, and carefully crafted samples that reference the soundscape of 90’s breakbeat and trance, the tracks build subtly, layering rhythm and emotion with intent instead of resolving into anything obvious.

Across the EP, there’s a clear sense of restraint in the production and a willingness to leave space and to let ideas breathe. Chloe plays with dynamics intentionally: low-frequency energy is employed strategically and the stereo field is used as a storytelling tool; widening, folding in, and then expanding again. Hyper vocal snippets, booming kicks, and sparkling perc hits, are largely self-recorded or built from scratch, propelling the emotional weight of ‘Porcelain’.

This is a page inspired by the artist Richard D. James, more specifically, his work on the Rephlex Records label, unreleased/rare releases, and the album he released under the alias “The Tuss”, called “Rushup Edge.” Leading up to this official release, there were multiple MySpace pages said to be accounts belonging to The Tuss. At this point in 2023, it is still unclear how much of these Tuss accounts Rich was involved in… the only confirmed RDJ Tuss material are the aforementioned “Rushup Edge”, and the ep the preceded it, called “Confederation Trough”.

This page also focuses heavily on the “SoundCloud Dump”, which was a series of releases uploaded to a number of anonymous accounts on SoundCloud that eventually became clear to the world to be Richard. It is an astonishing amount of material - spanning his entire artistic career. They eventually were taken down by his record label, but there are a number of folks that compiled each track in a zip archive and can be downloaded for free to this day on archive.org. 

Though this page is dedicated to and inspired by Aphex Twin - I came to a turning point with where to take this page. The main goal is to promote. In other words,  to provide a place online for fans of Aphex Tain to easily stream the best of their favorite artist, as well as showing younger fans of electronic music who I believe is the greatest electronic musician. 

I’ve also uploaded various tracks from a few other artists that are either collaborators, influencers or those influenced by Aphex Twin. You will find some original DJ mixes done by me and some straight up “mixtape” style hour long tracks arranged by and mastered by me. 

I do not profit in any way from this monetarily speaking, but I do get a lot out of seeing the comments and the joy that the songs uploaded bring about, and archives are important.
