Coop stalwart IG Culture (http://igculture.com/) and Bugz In The Attic co-founder Alex Phountzi (@phountzi), and went on a high-flying 3-hour b2b session spanning broken beat, neo-soul, breaks, dancehall and everything in-between. The pair also record together as @namebrandsound, go check.

I decided to record a new broken beat mix, and while I was picking out tracks to select realised that the majority all had a common denominator... Domu.

So I changed tack. I figured it was time for a new series of mixes, and since Domu has been one of my biggest musical influences and favourite producers since forever, I decided to begin a series of 'Inspiration Sessions' using tracks from all of my favourite artists, beginning with him.

This first 'Inspiration Session' exclusively features tracks produced or remixed by Dominic Stanton, in some of his many aliases. I chose to stick with the broken beat theme I'd begun with, although clearly he is one of the most diverse artists of the last 30 years and I could have included a variety of hip hop, drum & bass or house music (and may still yet record a further mix to attempt to fully do this legend justice).

This is a special episode of About To Blow as we shift things in a new direction as we welcome leader of the London seminal ‘Bruk’ movement and Co-Op selector EVM128 down to the studio for a chat and guest mix. 

Made famous from it’s now legendary Plastic Plastic residency in the early 00s, the Co Op movement is known for fusing styles of House with Jazz, Funky, Boogie, Garage and Tribal and thankfully has been enjoying a revival over recent times. Instrumental to that revival is London-based EVM, with the Hackney based joining to talk us through the movement, his career to date, projects to come and the amazing new CoOp Presents: Selectors Assemble Volume 2 compilation.

Mark Force (Bugz in the Attic)_ Broadcite 18th Bday Warmup

Montreal-based Lexis is one of the most vocal music champions and DJs out there. Founder of Music Is My Sanctuary, Lexis has been responsible for highlighting numerous artists – with the help of writers and DJs from around the world – since 2007. He even recorded a TED Talk in his hometown about the importance of preserving cultural heritage through vinyl – watch it below. 

In an exclusive mix for Supreme Standards, Lexis presents over an hour of fresh bruk and Jazz, inspired by musicians that are mostly across the water from MIMS HQ. Rather than being a nostalgic selection, Lexis has selected tracks that “showcase the Jazz sound within the Broken Beat producer community”. Expect knowledgable picks from the likes of Neue Grafik, Footshooter and The Last Poets. 

We talked to Lexis about his foray into broken beat and the musical impact of his 12 year-strong music platform.
