Sonata composed by Mozart at age of nine for two people on  a harpsichord originally played in a small private theatre rented out by Leopold mozart. Mozart was accompanied by his sister to play this piece for an audience of esteemed guests.

After his acclaimed explorations of such Handel operas as Giulio Cesare and Rinaldo, René Jacobs now tackles the first great operatic success of the ‘caro Sassone' (Venice, 1710), the climax of his Italian period. This version reconstructs the work in its original conception, the only one to combine explosive topicality with extreme dramatic cogency. As a result, this tale of amorous intrigues against a background of Roman history, the ‘prequel' to Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea, emerges more fascinating than ever.

I recorded this in Fort Worth on Thursday March 28th. This piece was part of a recital that included the Goldberg Variations. I was played by Clark Griffith at Steinway Hall on one of Van Cliburn's favorite pianos. The hall was a little lively, so I recorded with two simple cardioid dynamic microphones patched straight into a Zoom H4
