Hunter S Thompson once said, "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs." 

But here at Sweat, we like to think (and act differently) and as such, it was with both excitement and angst with which we received the initial email containing what is now this very EP. Excitement because the music was wikkid, very sweat, very now. Angst because it was from Craig Williams, Green Velvet collaborator yes, but more importantly, man of Motorik, a label we share a nice and friendly relationship with and one we didn't want to step on. A quick call to the Motoroik Vibe Council though and the green light was given - apparently, the music was more "Sweat" than "Motorik," which I think they meant it was more house than techno. 

Either way, The Saw Throat EP is here on Club Sweat and it's good. Really good. The title track is a creeper, it sounds deep but play it in the club and you will see - it bangs pretty good too. The B side, 100 MTC is a more reserved but equally effective little guy, it's like both tracks went to the same gym, but one was training for the heavyweight title and the other, training for the middle weight crown. 

Listen to both and you will probably know what I mean, and also where the the EP name comes from.

With the irresistible force of his recent contributions to the label still reverberating strongly throughout all parts of techno and beyond, Drumcode welcome back Ben Sims for another inspirational and incendiary EP of his trademark grooves. Beginning where Ben’s ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ album left off, Air Rage EP has Sims on serious underground form; laying down punishing party grooves of abrasive, rolling rhythms while making space for splashes of full-force funk and enchanting melodic moments. Sims’ intuitively daring use of these contrasting energies is the source of this EPs intoxicating appeal with examples evident within all four tracks. Whether it is the looping robotic bleeps on The Parade; the funked-up electro stomp of Air Rage; the otherworldly strings in Move In Time or the harmonic bell chimes within Machine Funk.

Crackboy returns to I’m a Cliché for a second EP with the label. Crackboy, the mysterious and anynomous beat junkie, so skilled at blending timeless hyper dirty sounds, for the first time has made room for original vocals. He presents three new killer tracks.

1. First track “Apes” is a sexy house song made for taking one’s shirt off on the dancefloor. Vocals are sung by a previous member of the band Haussmann, Claude Violante, now colabrorating with Crackboy for her solo projects.

2. On the second “User”, a sampled ghettoish speech with aggressive claps and ecstatic chords leads to climax halfway through. “The fucking monkeys are coming”, says the guy. Picture them on the dancefloor, now.

3. The closing track “Kiddo” is all about muscled acid and soundsystems being given a rough time.

Twin Turbo gives you a reason to keep on holdin' on with two new-school electro bombs from Irish producer Phil Kieran.

With releases on Skint, Soma, and Gigolo, stellar collaborations with Green Velvet, and a critically-acclaimed debut album on Sven Väth's Cocoon, Phil Kieran has emerged as one of the most exciting producers on the UK scene, earning support from the well-liked likes of Tiga and Chris Liebing. He's also been remixed by Jesper Dahlbäck on three separate occasions, which pretty much makes him a Turbo In-Law for life.

"I Can't Go On" sets the mood with a breathy vocal refrain and classy arpeggios before giving way to an untethered breakdown that makes you ashamed you ever questioned why this was on Twin Turbo. Meanwhile, "Ghetto Face Place Space" conjures the ghosts of dead social media platforms with an insistent subterranean bass pulse, razor-sharpened percussion, and  moderately creepy mutter-vox.
