Pig&Dan signal their first solo outing on Drumcode since 2016, with a stirring four-track work.

The duo stands as one of electronic music’s most prolific artists, shapeshifting between different shades of house and techno over a 15+ year period, all the while displaying a startling breadth that’s ensured their enduring demand. Their relationship with Adam Beyer has solidified over the years, first impressing with a debut EP ‘Mexico’ in 2016, before collaborating with the Swede himself in 2017 for the fantastic four-tracker ‘Capsule’, a notable highlight. With their contribution to last year’s A-Sides compilation ‘La Bruja’ one of the strongest of the bunch, their return for a full-length EP is timely. 

Title track ‘Infinity’ is rave-infused stadium techno crafted to perfection, driven by an undulating melodic lead that builds to a tension-packed break, before the chords re-appear and propel the track toward a trippy finale. Vocal cut ‘Losing Part of Me’ is momentous, with punchy bass and pin-sharp percussion juxtaposing superbly with the emotive vocal and laser-kissed melodic touches. ‘Terrax’ is propelled by woozy synth leads that escalate in intensity, before unexpectedly dropping into a series of soothing synth interludes, before slamming back in with purpose. The EP concludes with ‘Plex’, as a brooding melody line is paired with pumping percussion for an atmosphere-heavy finale.

A firm Drumcode favourite, Mark Reeve is back with his latest
techno opus.

Weaving his vitalising, biting techno through the seminal imprint since 2012, Reeve has since become a permanent fixture within Adam Beyer’s camp. He saw demand for his knockout ‘Run Back’ EP being matched and surpassed by his ‘Far Away’ EP, which bagged the number one spot on Beatport’s techno chart. Staunch DC fans will also be familiar with Reeve’s output on the label’s ASides compilation series, and clubbers hot on the tails of Drumcode events will have caught him
centre stage across a string of showcases, including the inaugural Drumcode Festival.

Reeve’s music invariably endorses an arresting sonic aesthetic, with intense melodies often driving in those eye-closing moments. The title track ‘Distance’ is an atmospheric opening gambit set to sonically massage the senses with uplifting pads and a radiant melody. ‘Serum’, a track recently roadtested by Beyer at a special event in collaboration with Cercle, soars and captivates as it progresses with a low-end rumble and intricate keys. ‘Fix Me’ is a vigorous techno workout that’s intent on energising a clubroom rammed with sweat-soaked dancers. Closing off the EP, ‘Filmwave’ rides a killer groove into a pit of punchy, powerful kicks.

The charismatic whirlwind Rocky Valente dishes up a three-track EP of varying techno feels featuring a high octane rework from Mark Reeve, on Pig & Dan's ELEVATE.

The Amsterdam based DJ and Producer strides through on the A-side with a 4/4 driving peak time monster entitled ‘The Revolution’. Shuffling hi-hats over a tight, rolling kick drum provide the pace with reverberating synth effects and subdued arpy basslines filling the corners of the track. ‘Anxiety’ features the dubby soundscapes often associated with deep Berlin dub-techno. The filtering echoes contrast the hard panning of the chord loop and are all locked in by her distinctive drum loops.

Mark Reeve remixes the A, providing an up-tempo driver that fills the sonic spectrum with crisp percussive drums and oscillating basslines. The huge melodic lines that chime in bring forward a cavernous breakdown that will stop dancers in their tracks momentarily before throwing them back into his deep grooves.
