E Tronic Trilogy
This trilogy was originally one track – the first part that you listen to. It ended up having three parts as I thought I would have a crack at remixing part 1 for another project I am working on. As a result of that remix came two more tracks that I liked rather a lot and thought – why not... a trilogy!

All three parts rely on the same set of chords throughout. Part one has very heavy strings and the heavy snare and kick make for an energetic pounding track. I love the strings on this part as they are so rich and quite epic. A very simple but very effective track.

Part two is completely different with a much quieter sound and feel. The bell like line that fades in at the start ends up being gated to add some more energy to the rhythm. The Juno once again takes care of the pads with a filtered string and choir combination whilst the amazing Sylenth VST produces that wonderful bass sound. Again, a very simple track but one that provides a break from the heavier sound of parts 1 and 3. 

Part 3 is the darker of the three parts and like a few of the tracks on the album has a Vangelis like lead sound. The bass line on part 3 is a modified version of the line on part 1. The chimes are provided by the Yamaha TG55, the only time I used that synth on this album as I had only just got hold of it.

Overall this track was a real pain to record. Every time I thought I had finished it I found something I wasn't quite happy with and so back I would go! In fact, this ended up being the last track I recorded for the album as just when I thought I had finished I noticed some distortion and so parts 1 and 3 had to be re-recorded. However, I hope you agree that it was well worth the effort.

Somebody by Madsen & Bispatial
The second track on the album Milestone to feature the vocals of Paul Keen (Bispatial). This was one of the final tracks I wrote for the album and was originally meant to have a very short vocal line but Paul ended up recording a whole bunch of vocals. I chose my favourite parts, he wrote the lyrics and I then spent an age trying to get the punch and sound I wanted. 

This track has grown on me over the past few months. It has real energy and emotion as it builds and builds and the lyrics and vocals grow. I love the chords on this tracks and particularly the bass line which doesn't fully follow the chords until midway through.

This is a track I would love to hear played live, I think it would really lift an audience and at the very least get their feet tapping! This probably has the best ending out of all the tracks on the album and paves the way for some kind of chilled out remix in the future.

This is a digitised version of a cassette recording!
The title of this track pretty much sums this track up... an airy track with a very light and open atmosphere. Again created using a combination of the TG55, O5RW and Akai S20 sampler, this is a very relaxing, chilled out track.
This was originally two tracks, neither of which really had enough about them to warrant finishing them. So I combined the two tracks to make Breathe. You can hear where the two tracks combine at about 3`50 when two separate chords sequences join up to form quite an interesting combination both musically and sonically.

Ten Days by Madsen
One of the first tracks written for the album Milestone and probably the track that made me realise that I had taken a very positive step towards sounding how I have always wanted to sound.

This has a very strong science fiction feel to it which I love. As with a growing number of my tracks there is a certain feeling that this track belongs on a movie soundtrack. I love this track and it has proven very popular. Although it is very electronic and almost mechanical it still has some emotion running through its near 6 minutes.

The vocals are spoken by my good self and then pitched up a little and de-graded. The delayed bass line is the wonderful Triangle 2 synth and synth 1 makes a welcome return to my music playing the short stabbed line throughout. 

The Roland Juno D makes its very first appearance on my music playing the strings in the background to add a bit of drama and grandeur. The Vangelis like synth melody that comes in after the break is played on the V-Station and as with every track on this album, the percussion samples are played on the brilliant but simple Octasampliz free VST.

Bispatial's first collaboration with Norwich-based synthpop duo Vista resulted in this sing-a-long 80's inspired slice of pop!

An alternative version of Madsen's first collaborative track with Bispatial, released on the latter's RMX 1 remix ep in 2008.  The original version appears on Madsen's "Milestone" album.

And the award for longest gestation period of any track ever (by me) goes to... WFL. The original version of this was written about 3 years ago using FL studio. However, I never really ever felt satisfied with it until version 5 or was it 6.. or 7? 

All those versions eventually led me to what you hear today, a vocal recorded by a close friend of Phatso Brown, wrapped around a large saw tooth riff that plays pretty much throughout the track. Again, strings from the Juno D fill out the background and a bouncy bass line is played on the A-Synth. The vocal is eventually vocoded and a strong melody comes in to lift the energy of the track once more. 

I have a bit of love hate relationship with this track but overall I think it came out well and would probably go down quite well in a club. I am never going to work on it again!

Wire Frame Logic

Theme to the Artifical event held in August 2010 when 7 live electronic acts played live to an audience of over 100 in Norwich.

Vocals are provided by the outstanding talent - Ella. Aged just 16 when she both recorded and performed this track.

End of Nothing
I have to come clean; this was the first time I had tried to produce a track singing the vocals myself! You can probably guess that the singing was not too good being as the vocals are completely vocoded! 

This is one of my favourite tracks, it has quite a light, airy feel but but there is a lot going on which made it a bugger to mix. The vocoding took a while to get right but it is pretty clean and the sound of the vocal is a mix of my terrible singing and a string patch from the Juno.

The Lyrics are concerned with the idea that when something ends (life) it is the end of nothing... in other words, we all carry on in some way.
