Bele Mama - From Cameroon, in West Africa

This is a great ice-breaker of a song! The perfect opener. It gets your group singing in harmony in a matter of minutes. Possible meaning is "Mama come out and play!" When I first learned this, I learned that it was from the Torres Straight Islands and that it meant "Beautiful Earth." The more research I do, the more I find that it's actually from West Africa and has traveled and traveled far and wide. Enjoy!

Karly Loveling has a passion for bringing heart and song together through Community Songleading. She leads Singing Heart Choir and the Hummingbirds Girls Choir in Eugene, Or and online until it is safe to sing again! Karly sings for her own joy and sanity, community building, women’s circles, babies, dying friends, people grieving, and anyone who will listen or sing along.

Sarah S. Bentley is a song catcher and song carrier, based in Austin, Texas. She facilitates down-to-earth, heart-centered, and powerful sacred singing circles. Sarah gracefully weaves the art of embodied singing, mindful movement, ritual, and communal prayer into her circles.

Sarah started singing as a child and has performed as a singer/songwriter. She draws on her studies in integrative medicine (qigong, yoga, meditation), health promotion, behavioral science, and community resilience to provide a rich and healing experience for her participants. Her intention is to spread peace in the world by sharing the wisdom of movement and heart songs to harmonize our communal resonance and raise the vibration of the Earth and Her inhabitants.
