Vastha Vattide

The Rudrashtakam (Sanskrit: रुद्राष्टकम, Rudrāṣṭakam) is a Sanskrit composition in devotion of Rudra, composed by the Hindu Bhakti poet Tulsidas (Sanskrit: तुलसीदास). Tulsidas composed in the late fifteenth century in Uttar Pradesh in India and created many other literary pieces including the magnum opus Ram Charit Manas.

The devotional hymn "Rudrashtakam" appears in the Uttara Kand of the celebrated Ram Charit Manas, where Lomash Rishi composed the hymn to propitiate Lord Shiva. His main purpose was to set his pupil free from the curse of Shiva. He succeeded and asked also a second boon (devotion for himself). His pupil would be the bird ' Kaga-Bhusundi' in a next life, a devotee of Shri Rama and an excellent teller of the life story of Shri Rama.

The Ashtakam is in reverence to Rudra, though the context pertains to the Shiva, the post-Vedic transformation of Rudra. It is arguable that the distinction between Rudra and Shiva was already lost by the time of Tulsidas.

The Rudrashtakam is lucid and simple in style and plays an instrumental role in the Shaiva traditions.

Согласно пуранам, Рудра произошел из чела Брахмы. Он явился воплощением всего того самого разрушительного и устрашающего, что можно было найти в богах. Покинув место своего рождения, Рудра удалился ото всех богов на севере Индии в горах. Данное божество было властелином над всеми животными, и, следовательно, он имел еще одно имя — Пашупати, то есть Хозяин Зверей.
Изображался он в виде охотника, одетого в шкуры животных, с чёрными волосами, стянутыми в узел. В данном облике он путешествовал по миру, охотился в лесах с помощью своего лука и чёрных стрел.
Женой Рудры была Сати, дочь властелина всех созданий Дакши. Сати безумно любила своего мужа и даже принесла себя в жертву, узнав, что при делении жертв Рудре не выделили ничего.
От Рудры произошли на свет Рудры — ужасные, похожие на змей исчадия, которые всюду следовали за отцом и бросались на всех, кого видели.
Второе поколение, произошедшее от Рудры, было не таким ужасным. Это были Маруты, божества бури. Маруты произошли от связи Рудры с Землёй, при чем Земля приняла облик пятнистой коровы, а Рудра — быка. Его сыновья стали армией и всюду сопровождали его в его славных подвигах и битвах с асурами и ужасными чудовищами.
Рудра Хираньявартани — стремительная сила и движение на пути света.
Рудра-шакти — сила Рудры.
Рудры — некие стремительные и свирепые; группа божеств, иногда идентифицируемая в Ведах с Марутами; впоследствии, 11 или 33 младших божества, ведомых Рудрой-Шивой.
