With their first collaborative project Artfaq and Ezequiel Arias land on Cid Inc's Replug Records with 'Babel'. Hailing from Cordoba, Nacho Ferroni and Nacho Varela make up the Artfaq production team. The Argentinean duo have found favour amongst progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while finding a home on Antrim's rapidly rising Or Two Strangers imprint. Similarly, upon making his debut in 2013, Cordoba resident Ezequiel Arias quickly became a favourite of the two storied DJs as well, eventually leading to releases on Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records, Sudbeat Music and Suara. Also a member of the Replug artist roster, Ezequiel made his label debut in November of 2017 with a contribution to the 'Defined 01' collection. Now making a welcome return to the Finnish imprint, Ezequiel pairs with label debutants Artfaq for a highly anticipated EP. 

Comprised of two tracks it's the title piece 'Babel' which leads the release off.  Putting your emotional centres on high, a bed of warm beats and hip swinging rhythms set the stage for a full, driving groove. Redolent effects add an astral charm as the first act unfolds, while fragmented melodies are gently teased as the main break commences. Coming to full realization yet tastefully indistinct, it's a musical narrative for the astute connoisseur, delivering a profound emotional message before smoothly transitioning into a groovy finale. 

Rounding out the EP is the equally stunning 'Polaroid'. In crafting a smooth rolling groove, the Argentinean trio have fashioned a strong foundation, complemented with hypnotic pulses and percussive drive. Charming in design and emotive in delivery, harmonic phrases slowly engulf the framework, carrying the piece into joyous second act. As the bassline melts down, melodic motifs converge, opening up for moments of exuberant warmth and hopeful reflection, before a pulsating final act unites rhythm and groove for devastating dance floor dynamics.  It caps off a hugely successful collaborative project from three of Argentina's most highly touted artists. A meeting of music minds where the end result further cements Replug's ethos of delivering unique and exciting projects.

'Antrim's Or Two Strangers imprint welcomes Sebastian Sellares to the label with 'Epiphany In The Woods'. Also known under his previous moniker Monje, Sebastian hails from one of Argentina’s most talent rich regions in Cordoba. His smooth progressive minded sound has become a favourite amongst old and new school fans of the genre, landing him releases on ICONYC,  PHW Elements and Massive Harmony Records. Now fresh off an EP for AMITABHA to begin the year, Sebastian debuts on Or Two Strangers alongside remixes from Simply City and Golan Zocher. 

The first interpretation of ‘Epiphany In The Woods'’ is provided by Simply City who is making his label debut. Hailing from Chile but now based in Montreal, Cesar Romero aka Simply City has become a fixture in the city’s burgeoning nightlife, earning a spot as one of Stereo’s resident DJs. On the production front he lays claim to releases on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings. 

Now making his first appearance on Or Two Strangers he delivers a superb take on 'Epiphany In The Woods'. Incredibly rhythmic with fresh design qualities and soft, creamy melodies, it moves elegantly across it's ten minute running time. Immediately captivating as an array of shifty atmospherics and tranquil melodies create a redolent air. Warm, dreamy overlays soon follow and you’re effortlessly taken away into a melodic wonderland. Here Mixmag reveals the bumping and progressive house anthem 'Synthopia' that showcases the infectious side of Guy J's material by delivering a carefully crafted hypnotic dancefloor cut that blends classic electronica with powerful motifs. 

Guy J had this to say on the vision behind the new material: "'Synthopia' for me is a track that takes me back to trance music that I used to love and influenced me a lot. Good vibes and a lot of energy."

As his label marks it's 60th release, Lost & Found owner Guy J returns with his brand new EP on 22nd April. Mixed and reviewed by our resident Ste Flynn.

Synthopia: Synthopia is guaranteed to be another Progressive anthem from Guy. A journey that's dominated by two major elements, an infectious rolling bassline that provides an undeniable groove and an uplifting powerful synth stab that builds and carries the listener to a state of euphoria. There are also a handful of atmospheric melodies that seamlessly float between the two elements fitting perfectly in the overall mix. A track myself and our residents will be playing for quite some time.

Cicada: Cicada is the perfect builder, dominated by an arpeggiated bassline which is almost reminiscent of Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love'. The bassline is complimented with rolling percussion and a melodious delay synth which perfectly combine to create an infectious groove while blended with Guy's signature atmospheric sounds.

DJ Mixing: The two are a delight to mix and blend together. Synthopia is in the key of D whilte Cicada is in A. This means they sit next to each other on the Camelot Wheel. The synths and basslines in each track compliment each other perfectly.

Cid Inc's Replug Records caps off a successful year by welcoming Dmitry Molosh back to the label for a new artist showcase. The Belarus native and progressive music favourite rounded out 2018 with his chart topping 'Detektor' EP for the Finnish imprint. 2019 has seen further successes, with EP's for Guy J's Armadillo Records and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music sitting as the highlights. Now fresh off a contribution to Nick Warren's Balance compilation, Dmitry lands back on Replug with 'Cascade'.

Firmly sitting amongst progressive music's elite, Dmitry continues to deliver some of the genre's most beloved tracks with 'Cascade' being the latest in a long line of gems. Fuelled by rhythm and groove; it's chunky foundation, driving percussion and buoyant rhythmic core form the backbone of this exhilarating journey. Panning effects and emerging atmopheres smoothly segue into the main break, shifting the narrative further into melodic territory. Sitting comfortably in an ethereal yet emotive space, the lead motif rises, resonating on a warm and inviting frequency, gently evolving across a foggy atmospheric backdrop, before a gentle rush sparks a thrilling final act.

The companion piece 'Step By Step' follows suit with an equally impressive display of rhythm and groove. 'Galestian debuts on Manual Music after his successful releases on Perfecto, Perspectives and Click Records to name a few. L'Amour is a sensual yet intense track that borders between the melodic, progressive and deep house genres. Next to the beautiful original it comes in remix versions by a couple of infamous Dutch producers: Alex O'Rion and Formel.

Alex O'Rion can't do wrong at the moment with one release after another hitting the charts and labels lining up to work with him. He adds his trademark dosage of groove and warmth, giving Galestian's original a lovely original interpretation.

The Formel guys are known for their releases on labels such as Last Night On Earth, Sincopat and Einmusika amongst others. They provide a more rough and peak time melodic approach which will make this release appealing to an even wider audience.

'Impressive DJs and producers in their own rights, Andrea Cassino and Greenage have both found themselves featured on a host of blue-chip labels. With a career stretching back some 20 years, May 2017 saw Andrea Cassino's "Divine" hit Proton Music followed by remixes from Magitman and Deeparture. A Proton Music debutant, Greenage has found considerable success with a double century of production credits for the likes of Stellar Fountain, Juicebox Music and Mango Alley. Combining their extensive forces, the title track opens with a reverb-laden percussive top line before dancefloor-oriented bassline groove and heavy beat create a strong rhythmic framework. Building effortlessly with angelic vocal layers and wave-like pads, "Losing Part of Me" waxes and wanes through its different phases as a Tangerine Dream inspired arpeggio makes its presence felt at the breakdown and into the third movement. The result is a majestic piece of progressive house. "Agua of Life" continues the rich bassline groove as off-beat percussive hats make their play alongside rippling motifs that carry the cadenced melodic narrative of its predecessor. Vocal layers once again play their part as the track hits its stride in the second half with consummate ease and impressive craftsmanship.

A remarkable producer with almost 500 production credits to his name since a 2011 debut, Dmitry Molosh's star burns brightly in the underground dance firmament. His distinctive sound has won him fans and plaudits far beyond his native Belarus with support from Nick Warren, Guy J and Hernan Cattaneo amongst others. A quartet of stellar remixes for Proton Music have included reworkings of Navid Mehr, Kastis Torrau and Trilucid and Phil Martyn while a debut original EP is set to follow. Returning with a typically impressive reworking of "Losing Part of Me", the Dmitry Molosh remix is an immaculate production that retains the head-shaking bassline character of the original while extending it through mirrored melodies that rise and fall with filtered ease. Layers of sound entwine in a multi-faceted sonic landscape that cleverly reinterprets Cassino and Greenage's central line, before exploding into the second half with dark dancefloor power and light melodic touch.

Cream and Deep Fog are mainstays of the progressive house scene with their distinctive sonic character and impressive production skills. Highly respected, hard-working DJs in their native Poland, the duo share over a century of production credits together with 2015's "Neverland" EP on Particles a notable highlight. A pair of remixes for Proton Music in the shape of interpretations of GMJ and Matter and Trilucid in 2018 and 2019 is now joined by a third. The Cream and Deep Fog remix of "Agua of Life" is a sumptuous reworking that revels in clever percussive layer and deep resonant kick that paves the way for the vocal layers from the original to lilt gently across proceedings alongside opulently textured pads. Evolving elegantly, the core melodic theme filters into sonic range, taking centre stage at the breakdown as additional production material from the duo's arsenal creates a dynamic and explosive second half.

Creating a powerful musical force with their original music, remixes from Dmitry Molosh and Cream and Deep Fog ensure Andrea Cassino and Greenage are in no danger "Losing Part of Me".'

Roger Martinez's Higher States continues a great year by welcoming RIGOONI to the label for his debut single. Hailing from São Paulo, Vinícius Souza aka RIGOONI has been rising out of Brazil's burgeoning electronic music underground. 2019 was highlighted by an appearance on Nick Warren's Balance compilation, setting the stage nicely for a 2020 release on the legendary DJ's The Soundgarden imprint. Subsequent offerings courtesy of MNL, One Of A Kind and Strangers Beats have made for a breakout year. Now fresh off a remix for Luka Sambe's 'Alive Is The Meaning', the Brazilian artist debuts on Higher States with 'When Midnight Comes', alongside a remix from Alex O'Rion.

Often sitting in the creative space between organic and progressive house, RIGOONI once again amalgamates those sensibilities on 'When Midnight Comes'. Anchored by a warm, spacious groove, its atmospheric scope comes up quickly, with glowing overlays and blissful swells layering a bed of effervescent percussion. Haunting vocal fragments marry harmonic drifts across the first act, eventually segueing into the main break. A more distinct musical narrative sits at the heart of the centrepiece, as rustic plucks and piano cascades play off each other wonderfully, resonating against a backdrop of glowing electronics, before the groove drops for a reflective finale.

Returning to the label and providing the lone interpretation of 'When Midnight Comes' is Alex O'Rion. Having made his Higher States debut in June of this year with two well received Antrim collaborations, the Dutch artist also lays claim to releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren's Hope Recordings. Now fresh off the release of his 'The Long Walk' EP for Cid Inc's Replug Records, Alex lands back on Higher States for his first remix. Taking a cue from the original while adding a progressive state of mind, Alex crafts a perfect complement to its predecessor. Atop a well contoured foundation comes rolling rhythms and layers of striking percussion. A unique contrast of character and groove eventually reveals fragmented melodies and harmonic overlays, blanketing the pulasting framework for goosebump worthy moments. A bed of percussive delays trails across the main break, subtly building tension as hazy motifs unite for an exhilarating final movement. A stunning remix from Alex once again, which rounds out a superb Higher States debut for RIGOONI. Highly recommended.
