Adam Halogen is back. Almost 5 years after the release of his wondrously subtle album 'Baked', the London based composer returns with a new single, 'So' released by new label, Mane.

Far from slouching around during this sojourn, he has toured extensively as part of the rather more bombastic trio, Zen Death Squad, including a set at Los Angeles' seminal Low End Theory nightclub, whilst also contributing scores and sound design to various experimental dance theatre and independent productions

The return of Halogen signifies a move back into the delicate, slow burning chord sequences that made 'Baked' so eminently listenable. The evolution comes from a new found love of vocals, which in this case are provided by Ben Aizenberg. With lyrics formed from pulling words randomly from various books, there is a certain ethereal nature to the recording, giving it a strange duality of feeling both blissfully naive and painfully mature simultaneously. 

With his Zen Death Squad bandmate Mark Owens on bass duties, the feels like a more collaborative experience than previous Halogen work, elevating him from the ranks of bedroom producer to something more akin to a reductionist composer, who creates their vision by subtracting from many elements to create slight, and occasionally taut textures.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt there was something truly mysterious about this world, and always wanted to find out just what that is. I think I may have found out some of it, but I also think I’ve only just scratched the surface. That’s kind of what this album is about. Until recently it had always seemed to me as if everything around me was so out of context, nonsensical, random. Finally I am beginning to understand that everything is connected, and I’d really like to keep exploring that, so here is something in context. 

This album was released for free and with a pay option because I think there is something seriously wrong with the music industry, and it doesn’t feel right to charge money for something that is dear to me. Therefore you are welcome to use this music in your own projects. You can contact me online if you need more information.

Depuis toujours, j’ai senti qu’il y avait quelque chose de vraiment mystérieux à propos de ce monde, et j’ai toujours voulu découvrir ce que c’était. Je crois en avoir découvert une partie, mais je pense aussi que je n’ai fait qu’égratigner la surface. C’est un peu l’idée de cet album. Jusqu’à récemment, il m’a toujours semblé que tout autour de moi était hors de contexte, insensé, aléatoire. Finalement je commence à comprendre que tout est connecté, et je voudrais vraiment continuer à explorer tout ça, voici donc quelque chose dans son contexte. 

Cet album est sorti gratuitement avec la possibilité de payer parce que je trouve que quelque chose ne va vraiment pas dans l’industrie de la musique, et ça ne me semble pas juste de faire payer de l’argent pour quelque chose qui m’est si cher. Vous pouvez donc utiliser cette musique dans vos propres projets. Vous pouvez me contacter en ligne si vous avez besoin de plus d’informations.
