Just in time for Christmas, two of Ireland’s top jazz singers collaborate on Frank Loesser’s beautifully contemplative seasonal ballad, posing the question many of us are only just starting to consider.

Featuring a brand new arrangement by Cian Boylan – who also produces and plays piano on the track – this version of Loesser’s 1947 song embodies the classic jazz trio style, with Dave Redmond (double bass) and Guy Rickarby (drums) thoughtfully complementing the piano, underscoring the warm, emotive vocals.

Both Bass and Kenevey are long-established singers on the Irish jazz scene, yet this is the first time they’ve had the opportunity to collaborate. Both have separately worked with Boylan on projects and recordings over the last decade, and this sophisticated, wistful Christmas song seemed the right vehicle for finally pooling their respective talents.

The song was recorded in November 2023 in Camden Recording Studios in Dublin, engineered and mixed by Conor O’Farrell Brady, mastered by Ruadhri Cushnan and produced by Cian Boylan.

“What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” will be available on all streaming platforms from 1st December.
