This is a poem I wrote in sympathy with all those people who might be faced with Internet dating!

Internet dating

There they sat watching the screen
Thinking of a life not yet been.
The lady, the man;
a mum, a dad
On their up to the minute, iPad

Looking for souls dipping and diving
Into the ether, simply surviving.
The flow and ebb
the sea of faces...
Who would hit on them
and serve them graces?

Was it him or her?
What might occur?
If they connected across the web?
Its tendrils touching...
Reaching out to tickle and tease.
Would he, could she please?
A question,
often left unsaid.

They sit in the comfort of their home.
Texting tales of love and woe
Their past lives tainted with torment.
And in that, disappointment
Perhaps their story was sure and true?
Perhaps they were not so blue?
But still they search the nightly affliction
Determined to feed their daily addiction.
For a lovers touch
To sense, to feel
To steal
A moment on that Internet highway.
To make it fit their dreams to die with?

The profiles are scant,
they are just a glimmer.
As the shadows shimmer,
They merge to reveal a truth...
That might have happened, under that roof?

The search carries on,
Their quest not done,
No! the intensity is deep,
As the loneliness creeps...
Into their text.
What would be next?

The couple unite
Would it be love at first sight?
A tepid cup of tea
"Are you the one for me?"
A stilted conversation
"Oh my god!" all those reservations.

The meeting,
could be just a moment, fleeting?
The tendril pruned,
The moment ruined
In only a second.
Their character reckoned,
Unworthy!

The souls return
Their meeting spurned
They weren't for me,
"Not my type.
Next time,
I'll use Skype!"

The racing steed
Who fulfilled that need

I was lost?

The channel flickers

I strain

hard to maintain
The signal fades
Vibrant memories jade

I was dreaming.

With pious gloat
Stirring
Seas
Storming the masochists boat
Secretly
Savouring

Surge
The tide pulling impatiently, under their strain 

Simple,

Spare a thought

Support
Surely he ought?

Secure
He's not questionable?

Or so it seems?

Screaming
His experience is weak!

Cushion the fall

Scarcely
Perfect at all!

Stunned
Sated
His gloat, now a smile
Stop,
Still
Here for a while

Swimming at
Sea
"Climb on, we're afloat!"
Sharing,
Sunning
Aboard the masochists boat.

Sides,
Play our song"
Submissive,
Salacious 
Can this be wrong?

Sobriety
Simpering
Soulful verse
Singing
Stories
From beyond his curse.

Sounds
Simple
Mourning demise.
Searching
Strength
To facilitate rise.

Somewhere,
Some state
Faint memories are lost.
Seduction
Short
It comes at a cost!

Splash,
Swim
Against the tide.
Shores of
Shingle
Painful to tread.
Somehow,
Strength 
Overcomes the dread?

Spiralling,
Stumbling
Climbing upwards.
Steadying,
Stronger
His view rewards.

The sight,
Summit
Sobriety no more...
Humble,
Humility
Sits patiently waiting
at the door...
