Going Home - Mark Knopfler

The composition "Autumn of the Samurai" is an art project at the intersection of ethnic and electronic music. The composer's intention is clearly to create a sonic canvas where the cultural codes of Japanese tradition are reinterpreted through the prism of contemporary electronic production. The central theme of the piece is not a battle scene, but rather the lyrical and philosophical aspect of the image of a warrior immersed in deep contemplation. The arrangement is built on a subtle and thoughtful counterpoint of acoustic and synthesized timbres.

Imagine: you're standing on a mountaintop at night. The air is cold, the stars are bright. And then, from the depths of time, the voice of a shakuhachi emerges—lonely, piercing the soul, like the memory of a lost battle. This is the core of the entire track, its elegiac soul.

But this isn't a journey into the past! Because immediately, like falling leaves, the tints of a koto begin to overlap. They sound not like a single instrument, but like an echo that repeats itself, creating a complex, almost holographic pattern. The sound engineer here is a true ninja, encrypting within these layers all the transience of autumn, "mono no aware."

Autumn of the Samurai

On November 21st 2011 Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler finished their common european tour that took 6 weeks. The final show took place at the Hammersmith Apollo in London.

The Encore of Bob´s set was the great song Forever Young and Mark joined him on guitar and vocals. It was a very special and emotional performance.
