On the 19th of July 2022 Sheffield recorded its Hottest Day of the Year. A few days later I started to write the intro to this tune. I finished it in 2024!

Brave was inspired by my personal struggle with anxiety.  It has taken me years to recognize/admit that anxiety is an issue for me…debilitating at times.  A few months ago, I sat down at my piano in the middle of the night in a pitch-black room. I was completely burned out and overwhelmed but unable to find sleep.  I was beyond frustrated. A social interaction that I felt should have been an easy and enjoyable experience had taken everything out of me earlier that day.  I felt defeated. I felt like a coward.  My fingers hit the keys and I just sang out, “What if brave looks different for me?  Am I less of a hero if I use my strength just to breath.”  After that, “Brave” kind of just wrote itself.     
 
This song is dedicated to those that have similar struggles.  Sometimes just showing up, making it to the other side of an event, and remembering to breathe is BRAVE.  It may not look like bravery to some, but for those of you that struggle…you know.

My Little Suede Shoes was released by Charlie Parker in the early 1950’s.  The story goes that Parker visited Paris in November 1950 where he heard two songs "Le Petit Cireur Noir" and "Pedro Gomez" blended them together, the result being My Little Suede Shoes.
The stories behind the songs are fascinating, and can be found in the liner notes on Charlie Parker’s “Unheard Bird” album. My interest in the back story inspired me to write this arrangement. A blend of Cuban and Caribbean beats with a modern twist.

Your musical journey through the 'Arcanum' EP ends with 'Coda'. A two-parted dance tune, inhering modern urban club influences as well as links to half-forgotten themes of dusted disco. Although this piece holds a story of his own, it marks the luminous ending of something greater we simply named 'Arcanum'.

As a professional drummer, percussionist, song writer, session player and music educator, I’ve played and performed with many artists. I’m also the author of two drum tutor books, “Why Should I Learn Drum Rudiments?” and “It’s All About The Grooves & Fills”
Following two successful albums and tours with Genevieve Carver & the Unsung Band, I have recently released my first solo album, “Into The Light”, featuring ten instrumental tracks originally written for Handpan and now orchestrated for a larger ensemble
