Another journey into the Atmospheric side of DnB. This mix was quite accidental - I normally just mix to practice and plan for a gig, but while I was doing that, this mix just ... manifested... literally... happened...

BenSon - Power Liquid Volume 18 [Beautiful...]

If you ever asked me how I define Liquid Drum & Bass, I always say "it's Drum & Bass with melody... it's a vast sub-genre". There is certainly lots melody in this mix, I tried to include as much variety, but kept it largely atmospheric. This is the set I played at TWILIGHT v14 in November 2018, just before sunset. The emotion I was aiming for was Liquid Sunshine - like feeling the warmth of the sun while sipping on an ice-cold, refreshing beverage and watching a beautiful lady in a sun dress that is billowing in the breeze. Hope you enjoy this mix as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Feedback is always welcome.

Power Liquid vol 12 [Liquid Sunshine]

Science Frikshun at Town Hall was a crucial turning point in the Johannesburg Drum and Bass scene. I definitely had, without a doubt, the best moments of my life there. My sets there (and still, I hope) had different phases. I tried not to stick to one sound or rhythm pattern in any set. So for this mix, I chose 40 of my favourite tunes from that era (it really was not easy) and also tried to stick to the structure of the opening sets I used to play at Town Hall. I hope this mix brings back fond and delightful memories for those that were there and a taste of what was, for those that weren't.

BenSon - Power Liquid vol. 14 - Town Hall - Take Me Back

Affectionately known as the 'Liquid King', DJ BenSon is a living legend in the Jo'burg Drum & Bass scene. He brings a soulful and emotive side to Drum & Bass. His infectious smile and incredible crowd interaction, not to mention sick mixing skills, have made him one of the firm favorites among the top Drum & Bass DJs in Jo'burg for over 15 years. 

His first residency was in April 1997 at the then 206 in Jo'burg. Back in those days, as part of the Next Step Crew, he played at some of the top clubs in and around Jo'burg, including; Reality and 115 sharing the decks with; Ed Rush, Aphrodite and Raiden in those years.
 
BenSon was one of the founding members of the Reflex Crew - that brought the legendary Trancesky (Phuza) Thursday Drum & Bass nights in Mellville, Johannesburg.
 
Now he's Rocking Jo'burg as part of the Science Frikshun Crew and has played alongside the likes of; DJ Fresh, Camo & Krooked, Nymfo, Danny Wheeler, Drumsound - to name but a few.
