If you have been following the news from India recently, you are likely shocked, saddened and angered by the recent rape and sexual assault cases that have made headlines worldwide. There are questions everywhere: why does this happen? What can we do? Who is responsible? And these questions are not only for India. These are questions for every community and country to think about. Violence against women is rampant everywhere. The team at Jaagte Raho wanted to talk to someone who could help us process, understand and find some direction in this moment of grief, anger and disorientation.

We are honored and delighted to share India’s eminent feminist, activist, social scientist, poet, writer - Kamla Bhasin- agreed to a conversation with us. Not that she needs any introduction, but to share a few highlights: Kamlaji is a social scientist by training, She has been actively engaged with issues related to development, education, gender and media for over 35 years now. Kamla ji currently works with Sangat- A South Asian Feminist Network, as an Advisor; with JAGORI, a Women’s Resource and Training Centre in New Delhi and Jagori Grameen in Himachal Pradesh as an active member.She is also the co chair for worldwide network, Peace Women Across the Globe and South Asia Coordinator of One Billion Rising.
