Far away from his birthplace in Germany, pianist Klaus Mueller has developed a uniquely personal sound during his upbringing in places like Japan, Brazil, and New York. Versatility and sophistication have long been the hallmarks of his expansive playing, be it with legendary Brazilian songstress Leny Andrade, popular vocal ensemble New York Voices, or Trio da Paz' bassist Nilson Matta. Mueller has also displayed considerable talent as an arranger, collaborating with Robert Sadin in creating orchestral versions of songs from Herbie Hancock's critically acclaimed “Gershwin’s World” album.  
Joining Mueller on his “maiden voyage” recording as a leader are the two premier players of their instruments in jazz and world music – Hancock’s former Miles Davis rhythm section mate Ron Carter, and the iconic Brazilian drummer Portinho, in whose exciting trio the pianist regularly performs. The pair’s participation on the date, contributing engaging solos and a sophisticated rhythmic foundation to the pianist’s original compositions and his interpretations of two Brazilian classics, a bolero, and Carter’s own Einbahnstrasse, is a ringing recognition of their younger colleague’s ever growing stature in the world of music. 
The seamless integration of the string quartet with the trio on Mueller’s arrangement of Vicente Garrido’s No Me Platiques Mas and his originals Far-Faraway and Retour (the latter with drummer EJ Strickland, who is also heard on Point Of No Return) is a true testament to his distinctive ability to successfully merge his early European classical background with the jazz and Brazilian music he’s mastered in his adopted North and South American homelands. The beauty and power of all the music here is sure to attract the attention of a wide range of music lovers, assuring that greater appreciation of his prodigious talents cannot be very far away.
