And now they drop the brand new Malum EP from Nerv, a four tracker of astounding music. The release starts with Head Problems, which stutters and ticks its way into life, building the suspense nicely before laying down a funky electronic groove which’ll have you moving whether you like it or not. Feel the track enter your system, as Nerv goes down low to pick this one up. Later, the bass comes more to the fore as what initially feels minimal reveals an entire underground world. A great way to start the EP.

Next is the rumbling No Effect. More is revealed about Nerv, as he creates something truly special on this one, with swooping bass effects taking over your brain, as silky, sliding beats take over your body. Soulful and elegant as well as stealthy and storming, No Effect is a massive tune, well worth repeated listens. The vibe continues on Metador, which employs a more liquid feel, with mesmerising piano and lilting vocals. Nerv puts all of his mind and all of his soul into his music, and the results are always amazing.

The release closes with Neuron Sparks, taking us back underground. Robotic blips, skittering beats and some menacing effects help form this one, with a juddering, nerve-rattling feel to it. Each of the tracks on Malum are decidedly different, but all showcase how Nerv is going to be a name to watch in 2015, as are Lifestyle.

Italy’s Kela is the man responsible for LFS049 – the Strage EP – the new release on London label Lifestyle Music. Kela’ll be no stranger to your ears, after cuts on Delta9 and T3K as well as Lifestyle, and you can expect more of his amazing music on the new EP.

Catharsis’s Lifestyle is a label which blends dancefloor accessibility (with support from BBC 1XTRA, Optiv & BTK, Zero T and Maztek) with intelligent, aware artistry and music. Their reach is truly international as well, with Kreed and Conduct (UK), Lockjaw (Australia) and fellow Italians Jazzatron just some of the artists on their books.

Strage will grab you straight from the top. A haunting, creeping opening sets this one up, building with stealth and precision, before things go crazy with Kela dropping beats from the sky right onto your brain and body. This one never lets up from start to finish, pounding you into submission. Crunching beats go against chunky bass notes and more and more rough, rugged effects. Come up for breath in the breakdown, as you’ll not get another chance when the track comes back in. Kela’s here to wreck things, and does so perfectly on Strage.

The flipside, Kosmos, is a different beast, this time around going for the intergalactic flavour. Marching beats wrap around synths and vocal stabs, before things get militaristic in the build. The track drops down, filling up with flavour, as the producer takes us on a journey far and wide. Headnodders and dancefloor fillers will love this one, with its sensitive touches and eclectic influences. 

Kela proves that his skills mean that he can touch all bases, and the tracks he has selected for the release are perfect for Lifestyle. Something new, something fresh, and something distinctive, LFS049 will be right at the front of your box.
