Daydream is a song I wrote about reflecting on my past, present and the potential future ahead of me. My single “Celestial”, released independently in 2018 was made during one of the hardest times of my life and using it as the template for Daydream, I wanted to show people how far I’ve come not only in my production abilities, but as a person. Celestial, during a time of darkness was everything I wanted to feel emotionally. It was lighthearted, energetic and in my eyes inspiring which contrasted my reality. Years later through “Paper Skies”, I’ve been able to take the thoughts I had in my head as a child and transform them into a reality, acknowledging the faults of my past and coming to terms with myself that I’ve grown and become stronger. By fighting against the odds, I’ve managed to come out on-top and if a younger Dan could see me now, he’d feel exactly how he wanted to feel when writing Celestial. I’ve overcome the pain and all that's left is to achieve everything that was once a Daydream.

From The Start is a fun tune I wrote and produced about staying true to myself and not moving too far from my roots. Let me tell you about it!

Exobolt has some of my most creative releases under their belt like Flare, Lightyear, Radiclaw and (almost) Revolve. Whenever I think of these older tracks, I get a really good feeling inside since they were made from a pure love of music and nothing else. Recently taking my music more seriously, I feel inclined all the time to change my style for labels and engagement. This song is about doing the opposite! From the micro-plucky intro, to the 8bit chorus and melodic-y, colour bass-y, saw stack-y drop; I just made what I wanted for myself and shifted my production mentality back from the start. 

I hope you all enjoy and definitely check out the Exobolt 008 compilation! It has so many amazing tunes from my friends with an amazing team behind it! Reminds me of an older EDM era where music was focused on being purely innovative, lighthearted and fun that I think you'll definitely enjoy if you liked this one.

When I first heard "Fred again.." and looked into his tunes, I resonated so strongly with how he used music to convey memories and real life. It only took one listen of "Turn On The Lights again.." before the remix idea popped into my head. Since then, there's been no slowing down on making the track and visuals!

In the 3/4 of this tune, Fred talks about this imposter syndrome of not being capable of writing certain emotions based on life experience. This is something I faced countless times, and it only became apparent after going though a significantly dark time in life that I've always been capable of being who I want to be. I never had to go through that rough patch and neither do you. Now working on my upcoming album/project, I've never felt more connected and real with my music. Stoked to share and wanted to give you all a glimpse of what I've been preparing through this remix!

Had so much fun making this remix of my favorite  @laxcitymusic  tune! Amends was released on my birthday last year and a track I was excited to remix after seeing the competition announcement. Spent 14 hours making the tune on the last day of submissions and managed to win a spot on the remix compilation!

Included this voiceover where Laxcity talks about perfectionism in the midsection of the tune. That clip just resonated with me having tried to perfect my album/project the last 3 years, but I'm happy to announce I just recently completed it! I had accepted I hit rock bottom. My streaming numbers were lower than they had been in 6 years and I was sitting in my friend's apartment in LA on my first solo vacation. This trip had no specific purpose other than to see my friends, but I learned real quick why LA has such a hustle mindset. I got an opportunity to receive massive funding to reopen my label, was chatting with big names in the scene and every moment felt like chasing an opportunity. The trip was amazing, but it brought me right back to the mindset I was trying to avoid when I wrote Freefalling.

The skill I learned on this trip was to block out the noise. Everyone has something to say about how you should live your life and push your career, but sometimes the best ideas and exploration of self comes when nobody is around. I used this opportunity to write this track whenever I was alone on this trip and discover the importance of isolation.

This is a skill I have been preaching to everyone I meet. Listen and Learn. It sounds so simple in concept, but doing it successfully is actually really hard. Ask yourself, the random dude you met at the club, on discord, at school, wherever- how much do you remember from chatting with them? Did that conversation actually matter to you? 

To listen means to hear someone from their thoughts and not your own. A lot of times, we subconsiously "listen" to people with our own bias and you will learn much more if you can dig deep and remove that bias. To learn means to actually remember what that person said and study it in your mind. Come to your own conclusions after removing that bias and watch how much you can take away from even a basic conversation. 

This song is called "Listen / Learn" because I've never made drum and bass before this. I can't tell you how many thousands of tracks I've listened to now in the genre and that was all purposeful. I still don't think I "did it right", but I definitely did it my way and I took inspiration from more sources than I can name on paper. It wasn't just about listening to the tunes, it was about studying them and asking what they were trying to accomplish. Not what I heard, but what did the artist who made it hear.

I think everyone my age would agree Fireflies is one of those nostalgic records that just hits. Reminds me of younger times hanging with my friends, school trips and a crazy unsorted playlist on my iPod that went from bangarang to flo rida. This is the year I really feel like all this hard work comes together.

2024 was the warmup I needed to get all my remaining music out and wrap up the first decade of Paper Skies. Stepping into 2025; I've never felt so rewarded with the opportunities coming my way - going to take full advantage of every single one, I've never felt so confident in the brand I'm building, and I've never been happier with the consistent new sound of all the music I have coming up. I feel like each of my descriptions on my releases is like a log where I just talk about however tf I'm feeling RIGHT now that I know only my real supporters read, so this will be a good one to look back on. None of what's gonna happen this year is possible without the support of you, reading this right now. Not to "big things coming soon" I'm just really excited.

2018 has been a busy year for me behind the scenes, and I figured it was about time I dropped something for you all to hear! 

Celestial is a track that began in January, and was planned as an early 2018 release. Many times I was eager to announce it and hit the upload button, but I wanted to ensure the result was something my listeners could enjoy just as much as my past releases. I feel I'm finally on the path to defining my style, with this being a indicator of what's to come in the future. Thank you to everyone who's stuck with me through the past few months of inactivity, and more music will be debuting in the coming months.

Celestial

In the classic style of tracks like Flare, Celestial and Lightyear comes my new single, "Revolve" with Speechrezz!

The support I've been shown recently despite my inactivity on Soundcloud has been tremendous and I'm so honored to have this fanbase that has continued to support my tracks since the start. This may be one of the last tracks I release in the "Lead + Sawstack" style, but I'm extremely excited to show off what I've been making this summer when my EP drops in October. Revolve

Finished this song for the Seven Lions, Only Now remix contest, but sadly wasn't picked as a participant in the competition. Regardless, I had a phenomenal time working on this tune with Soar and Lite and am thrilled to debut the track as my first release of 2020. Typically I finish a project then release months later due to planning, labels, ext; so putting out a more current project as a reflection of Soar, Lite and my work is definitely refreshing. Honored to release my new single "Edges" on Ophelia with Alltair, Wiguez and Mary Sweet! 

The two producers approached me almost a year ago to work on their latest drum & bass collab and inspiration struck immediately. Within the week, we had the whole composition figured out, wrote lyrics and eventually stumbled upon Mary Sweets amazing voice over Instagram. Fold is a track I wrote about me sticking to what I’ve always wanted to do, which is making melodic music that I enjoy for myself. Recently my hobby as a producer has started progressing a lot faster, but that's especially true for my friends around me. As they move more into the dubstep scene, I’ve always felt this pressure from others to do the same and while I enjoy making the music, my previous EP felt like a pull away from the style that I originally fell in love with. This experimentation has lead to a lot of interesting ideas, but Fold along with the recent and upcoming singles planned really showcase my sound as an artist and the unique approach I want to take into dubstep. To put it quite literally, despite the rise of modern melodic dubstep and riddim, I don’t want to fold under the pressure of conforming to the sound; I know where I want to be in the scene and hopefully by just continuing to work hard I can reach my dreams.
