I hope it can evoke at least in part the emotions of that night.”

Equally adept at playing propulsive deep techno, as she is at exploring hazy breaks, sumptuous downtempo, soaring trance, expansive drone, and even full-throttle drum and bass, Sybil’s sets often criss-cross through all of these genres and more, as she guides dancers on journeys which are emotive, thrilling and ultimately revitalising. 
Based in London, a notable UK-flair for genre-fluidity and diagonal rhythms can be found within her psychedelic techno excursions. Contributing our latest episode is London’s ANNX, a regular figure within the city’s cutting-edge undercurrent whose many contributions include co-curation of the Whomp, Perspectives, and once-shrouded Magick events, and a residency at the beloved Above Below festival. Anna’s tireless dedication to the scene goes hand-in-hand with her unmistakable talent behind the decks, as evidenced by an impressive repertoire of mixes and set recordings, and which I was fortunate enough to witness first-hand last summer in the Chilterns. Here Anna demonstrates her well-honed craft over the course of two meticulously plotted hours, diving seamlessly into manifold forms of deep, heavy psychedelia before emerging in a wave of euphoric bliss. Sure Thing Mix 141: ANNX

This week we land in Valencia and spend a moment with Ilayruni, a 19-year-old with an ear for rhythm and space, still shaping his sound but already showing a feel for nuance. Earlier this year, he released Mountain Flyers EP on Sungate, a label with which we’ve worked closely over the years, known for its focus on various shades of techno and a taste for forward-thinking sounds.

His hour-long set is made entirely from his own material, and it leans into the shadows. It starts slow and murky, with a dense, eerie atmosphere that unfolds with intent. The progression is subtle but steady, each track steps a little deeper into the fog, each rhythm adds a sharper edge. There’s tension in the way it builds, but no drama.

There’s a clear affection for polyrhythms and off-center grooves, and a careful balance between control and drift. The textures shift, the pace grows, but the mood stays intact, claustrophobic at times, even hypnotic. It’s not polished to perfection, and that’s part of the charm. You hear someone exploring, reaching, figuring it out in real time. A young producer following instinct, not trends. We’re curious where that path leads.

Through chaos, cathartic soundscapes, and monolithic grooves, we are excited to introduce Marco Maldarella — @marcomaldarella — for this new episode. Producer and selector based in Bologna, Marco co-founded @sinestesie_s event and mix series. His project is rooted in a multidimensional approach, known for his collaboration with Christian Duka as MARMO, and his solo album Clinamen, released on @omenwapta.

At the crossroads of deep psychedelic techno and tribal sounds, Marco Maldarella dives into the depths of modern electronic music with a fast-paced and intense sonic signature.

For this mix, Marco delivers a raw tribe fast trance experience, where psychedelic elements collide with a dark groove reminiscent of ancient times. Drones, noise, and otherworldly voices define his unique style. The result is an intimate, introspective, and mental journey, featuring many of unreleased tracks.

Next up in our mix series is Shoal, a Dutch producer and DJ who recently relocated to Prague. Known for his hypnotic, emotionally layered sound, Shoal crafts deep, transportive journeys through trippy textures, modular synthesizers, and rolling rhythms. A core member of the ISOTOOP collective, he’s performed at leading underground spots like De School, Tresor, and Ratherlost. His releases on labels like Tikita, Harmony Recordings, Monument, our own Ute.Rec, and most recently Animalia, continue to expand and refine his unique sonic voice within the scene.

In this mix, Shoal delivers a 1.5-hour live set full of acid-dripping techno, spacey atmospheres, and heads-down minimalism. It’s a slow-burning, carefully building mix that captures the raw live sounds and subtle depth that define his sound. A live-set working just as much the mind as the body.
