Wir starten das neue Jahr mit einem besonderen Projekt der Völkerverständigung. “Joined Forces” wird von Wahl-Dresdner Tobax initiiert und präsentiert und enthält acht Mal sorgfältig ausgesuchten Drum and Bass. Was die Herkunft der Tracks bzw. besser gesagt die der Artists angeht, so geben sich die Producer aus dem russischsprachigen Raum und die lokalen Protagonisten die Basslines in die Hand. Marschrichtung der Compilation ist hauptsächlich progressiver Neurofunk, der insbesondere von den russischen Buddies um TNTKLZ, Decrese (Weißrussland), Despersion und Tantrum.Today geliefert wird – letzteres Projekt war bereits für die Vorabsingle verantwortlich. Und auch Kurator Tobax gibt sich keine Blöße und steuert mit “Waldgeist” eine harsche Schwarte dazu. Miss Redflower und Hasky als lokale Vertreter schlagen etwas melodischere Töne an, ohne den Grundtenor des Samplers zu konterkarieren. Und auch Clusta als UTM-Records-Dauerbrenner ist mit im Bunde, der hier mit einer komplett runderneuerten Version seines Tracks “Accelerate” aufwartet.

Mit dieser Veröffentlichung haben wir uns mächtig ins Zeug gelegt und Tobax hat sich damit einen festen Platz innerhalb des neu formierten Label-Teams von UTM-Records gesichert.

We start the new year with a special project of international understanding. “Joined Forces” is initiated and presented by Dresden by choice inhabitant Tobax and contains eight carefully selected Drum and Bass songs.

As for the origin of the tracks, or rather that of the artists, the producers from the Russian-speaking countries and the local protagonists hand over the basslines to each other. The direction of the compilation is mainly progressive Neurofunk, which is supplied in particular by the Russian buddies around TNTKLZ, Decrese (Belarus), Despersion and Tantrum.Today – the latter project was already responsible for the pre-release. And curator Tobax does not show any weakness as well and adds a harsh rind with “Waldgeist”. Miss Redflower and Hasky as local representatives strike somewhat more melodic tones without contradicting the basic tenor of the sampler. And Clusta, a continuous burner from UTM Records, is also in the league, who comes up with a completely redesigned version of his track “Accelerate”.

We worked intensely for this release and thereby Tobax has secured a permanent place within the newly formed label team of UTM-Records.

Wir haben euch heute mitgebracht: Volume 8! Und auch bei der achten Ausgabe der UTM-EP/Compilation greifen wir auf die bewährte Mischung aus debütierenden Artists und Wiederholungstätern zurück. Den Einstand machen die spanischen Toreros Dub Elements, welche bei ihrem Track „Nasty“ die Fetisch-Peitsche auspacken und einen hektischen Disco-Slammer im Gewand von oldskooligem Rave-Sound der frühen 90er durch den Darkroom ziehen. Etwa zwei Stunden weiter südlich befindet sich das Überseegebiet Gibraltar – und wenn etwas in britischer Hand ist, dann darf Drum and Bass einfach nicht weit sein. Seinen Einstand gibt Vulgarythm für uns mit „Gainok“, einem pulsierenden Schraubendreher, der einfach immer fester zieht und im zweiten Drop noch mal extra mit dem Griff nachklopft. Mit Scartip landen wir nun endgültig in der Heimat des DnB. „Packet Melange“ ist sein zweiter Track für uns und läuft wie ein Uhrwerk. Zwischen Drums, Percussion und Synths passt kein Feigenblatt. Für diesen Groover ist alles punktgenau einprogrammiert. On point ist ebenso der Track „Red Dusk“ (UTM-Anthem), welcher aus der Symbiose von CZ’s finest Taby, zusammen mit Monch MC entstand. Er schiebt im Bassface-Modus voran und Monchs Bars machen daraus eine brandgefährliche Waffe. Das noch strammere Programm kommt vom produktiven Clusta, der mit „Cave Of Evil“ hier einen seiner dicksten Bretter gebohrt hat. Die Bassline zieht herein mit großem Donnerwetter. Unsere Berliner Jungs Tarma & Magmot sind diesmal auch ein ganzes Stück progressiver unterwegs. „In The Caves“ ist eine klassische Skankout-Nummer, prädestiniert für den Dancefloor. Abgerundet wird die Volume 8 durch Neuling Low Performance. „Encounters“ steppt und rollt gleichzeitig mit fräsenden Basslines und reverbed Background-Sounds. Der Monlog wurde übrigens von einem native speaker eingesprochen! [text :: metric]

Für unser nächstes Release gehen wir richtig in die Vollen und haben mit einer Single von L 33 einen, wenn nicht gar DEN Vertreter für Drum and Bass aus Bulgarien am Start. Dayan hat mit seinen Produktionen jedenfalls maßgeblich dazu beigetragen, den Balkanstaat auf die DnB-Landkarte zu bringen. Seine progressiven Neurofunk-Tracks fanden bereits ihren Weg auf Labels wie Ram, Eatbrain oder Titan. Und auch für UTM-Records harpuniert er uns hier mit zwei echten Torpedos, gegen die kein Wasser zu trüb sein kann. Für „Secret Weapon“ können wir diese Metapher getrost aufgreifen, denn wenn diese Waffe dropt, ist ein Entrinnen unmöglich. „Rock´n´Stone“ taucht noch eine Schicht tiefer und zieht mit seiner Urgewalt derbe Risse in Fels und Stein. Eine Single mit zwei hochgradig progressiven Tracks, die überdies in Sachen Mixdown und Mastering on point sind!

For our next release we’re going to the fullest and with a single by L 33 we have one, if not THE representative for Drum and Bass from Bulgaria ready here. In any case, Dayan’s productions made a significant contribution to putting the Balkan state on the DnB map. His progressive Neurofunk tracks have already found their way onto labels like Ram, Eatbrain and Titan. And also for UTM-Records he harpoons us with two real torpedoes, against which no water can be too murky. We can confidently use this metaphor for “Secret Weapon” because when this weapon drops, there is no escape. “Rock’n’Stone” dives one layer deeper and pulls rough cracks in rock and stone with its elemental force. A single with two highly progressive tracks, which are also on point in terms of mixdown and mastering!

Time so switch it up! Nachdem uns Zigi SC im April mit einem DJ-Set beehrt hat, haben wir nun endlich auch eine Single von ihm im Portfolio. Der „Best DJ“ der „Czech & Slovak Bass Awards“ 2021 reiht sich damit in die Tradition von bisherigen UTM-Releases z.B. von L 33, Freqax oder Tobax ein, die augenscheinlich zunächst den klassischen Neurofunk bedienen, dann aber doch ihre ganz persönliche Note mit einbringen. Zigi SC liefert mit „Gravity Gun“ jedenfalls vollumfänglich ab. Bereits im Intro dreht er mächtig an der Gravitationsschraube und lässt nach aufkochendem Buildup einen mächtig zwingenden und gleichzeitig erhabenen 4-to-the-floor Stomper auf uns einprasseln. Das Ding ist wie geschaffen für die Peaktime im Club bzw. im Set. Mnohokrát děkuji, Zigi SC!

Pünktlich zur Verabschiedung der Festivalsaison und zur Begrüßung der neuen Clubsaison melden wir uns mit einem klassischeren Neurofunk-Release zurück. Faun Dation aus St. Petersburg und jetzt wohnhaft in Eisenach ist als DJ schon seit 20 Jahren aktiv. Seine Arbeiten als Producer sind dagegen zwar noch recht rar gesät und doch hat er u.a. bereits einen Remix für DC Breaks auf RAM sowie Releases auf Neuropunk und Ozriderz vorzuweisen. Mit der „Highly Addictive“-EP gibt er bei uns seinen Einstand und dürfte damit jeden Neuro-Head ausgeprochen verzücken. Bereits der Titeltrack gibt Vollgas und peakt jenseits von Intro und Breakdown geradezu persistent. Fortsetzung folgt mit „42 Diseases“, denn wie man bekanntlich weiß, fordert Abhängigkeit seinen Tribut. Habt ihr das überstanden, geht es ungezügelt über in „Rampant“, mit ähnlich beklemmenden Sounds, aber konkret derberer Kickdrum-Snare-Symbiose. Die Geschichte endet mit „Paradise“ und wer hier versöhnliche Sanftmut erwartet, der irrt gewaltig. Denn auch hier sägen die Synths tidenhaft bedrohlich am Baum des Lebens. So gehet dahin und lebt – bzw. feiert das Release – es bringt alles mit, was dazu nötig ist!

Just in time to say goodbye to the festival season and welcome the new club season, we’re back with a more classic Neurofunk release. Faun Dation from St. Petersburg and now living in Eisenach has been active as a DJ for 20 years. His work as a producer, on the other hand, is still quite rare but yet he already has a remix for DC Breaks on RAM and releases on Neuropunk and Ozriderz to show. With the “Highly Addictive” EP he makes his debut for us and should delight every Neuro head with it. The title track already goes full throttle and peaks almost persistently beyond the intro and breakdown. The sequel follows with “42 Diseases”, because as we all know, addiction takes its toll. Once you’ve gotten over that, it goes unbridled into “Rampant”, with similarly oppressive sounds, but a concretely coarser kick drum-snare symbiosis. The story ends with “Paradise” and anyone who expects forgiving gentleness here is greatly mistaken. Because here, too, the synths saw tide-like menacingly at the tree of life. So go there and live – or rather celebrate the release – it brings everything that is necessary for it!

Alles wendet sich schließlich doch zum Guten. Unser langersehntes Urge To Move – The Redemption-Event kann nach mehrmaliger Verzögerung nun endlich stattfinden und passend zu diesem Anlass schreiben wir natürlich auch die Geschichte der Various Artists – UTM EP fort. Anlässlich der Volume 9 haben wir diesmal einen Cocktail aus Artists dabei, die teils erst jüngst für uns released haben oder hiermit ihr Debüt feiern. UK Pionier Neil Badboy macht den Anfang und kredenzt uns mit „Invasion“ einen JumpUp-Stomper im oldskooligen Gewand aus der goldenen Ära dieses Subgenres. Neuling Theezer zeigt danach mit „Watch Out“, dass in seinen Adern feinstes Neuro-Blut fließt. Watch out for him! Weiter geht’s mit dem melodischsten Titel der EP „Face Your Demons“ von Amonfire, einem wohligen Song zum Schwofen und Relaxen. Chris P ist ebenso neu an Bord und liefert uns „Get Physical“ -einen feinen minimalistischen Roller. Den Abschluss machen unsere beiden Bautzner Strategen Gisix und Tornatic. Gisix verbuchte ja bereits eine EP bei uns und er knüpft hier mit „Calm With Me“ direkt daran an und schreibt seine persönliche Story der Symbiose aus techigen Sounds mit Uplifting und Vocalsnippets fort. Tornatic ist neu im Bunde der UTM und steuert „Never Stop The Energy“ bei. Wieder mal ist der Name hier Programm, handelt es sich um eine proper For-to-the-Floor-Nummer, bereit für die Peaktime!

Everything turns out for the better in the end. Our long-awaited Urge To Move – The Redemption event can finally take place after several delays and in line with this occasion we are of course continuing the story of the Various Artists – UTM EP. On the occasion of Volume 9, this time we have a cocktail of artists with us, some of whom have only recently released for us or are celebrating their debut with this. UK pioneer Neil Badboy starts things off and with “Invasion” serves up a JumpUp stomper in an old-school guise from the golden era of this subgenre. Newcomer Theezer then shows with “Watch Out” that the finest Neuro blood flows in his veins. Watch out for him! Let’s continue with the most melodic title of the EP “Face Your Demons” by Amonfire, a pleasant song to sway and relax. Chris P is also new on board and brings us “Get Physical“ – a fine minimalistic roller. Our two strategists from Bautzen, Gisix and Tornatic, conclude the release. Gisix has already had an EP with us and with “Calm With Me” he follows it up directly and continues to write his personal story of the symbiosis of techy sounds with Uplifting and vocal snippets. Tornatic is new to UTM and contributes “Never Stop The Energy”. Once again the name says it all, it’s a proper for-to-the-floor number, ready for peak time!

Das allgegenwärtige Jungle-Revival im Drum and Bass ist uns nicht verborgen geblieben. Doch möchten wir dieser Strömung auf unsere eigene Weise Tribut zollen. Wir haben eine EP zusammengestellt, die sich dem archaischen Sound verschrieben hat – irgendwo zwischen Ed Rush & Optical und Bad Company – sich aber moderner Produktionsmethoden bedient. So möchten wir ein Stück weit die Wurzeln freilegen, auf denen sich der zeitgenössische Trommelbass gründet. Dies nehmen wir zum Anlass, um mit Echochambers einen gänzlich neuen Artist vorzustellen, der in Neuseeland lebt. Er bringt gleich zwei Nummern in die EP ein: „Tectonic Plates“ ist ein Sägezahnthriller, der tektonisch so einiges ins Wanken bringen kann, während „Baggs Snott“ mit seinen Squeaks und der wabernden Bassline eher auf den 2000er BC-Pfaden wandelt. Mit Acid Lab aus Deutschland konnten wir einen Protagonisten gewinnen, der als Aushängeschild für darken, amen- und teilweise Jungle-lastigen Sound internationale Wertschätzung genießt. „Generate“ steppt sauber und organisch auf den Spuren des einstigen Virus-Sounds. Als dritten im Bunde haben wir wieder UK-Legende Neil Badboy an Bord, der hier mit „Dreams“ eine rotzig-laute Variante von Oldschool-JumpUp hinlegt. Da biegt sich alles, was wie die Wurzeln arbeitet. Eine Menge Holz, diese EP!

The ubiquitous Jungle revival in Drum and Bass has not remained hidden from us. But we want to pay tribute to this trend in our own way. We’ve put together an EP that’s committed to the archaic sound – somewhere between Ed Rush & Optical and Bad Company – but uses modern production methods. In this way we would like to bare a bit of the roots on which the contemporary Drum and Bass is based. We take this as an opportunity to introduce Echochambers, a completely new artist who lives in New Zealand. He brings two numbers into the EP: „Tectonic Plates“ is a sawtooth thriller that can shake a lot tectonically, while „Baggs Snott“ with its squeaks and the wafting bassline is more on the 2000s BC path. With Acid Lab from Germany, we were able to win a protagonist who enjoys international esteem as a figurehead for dark, amen and partly Jungle-heavy sound. „Generate“ steps cleanly and organically on the trail of the Virus sound of the past. As the third in the league we have UK legend Neil Badboy on board again, who here with „Dreams“ lays down a snotty, loud variant of oldschool JumpUp. Everything that works like roots bends there. This EP is a whole lot!

Der aus Südfrankreich, aus der Nähe von Marseille stammende Charles entdeckte elektronische Musik wie so viele da draußen mit The Prodigy – „The Fat of the Land“. Der Eintritt in die Welt des Trommelbass folgte mit „Driving Insane“ von Black Sun Empire und Aphrodite. In den Zehnerjahren legte er auf einigen Parties auf und mixte hauptsächlich Acid Techno, Jungle, Raggajungle und schließlich auch Drum and Bass. Letzteres wurde ernsthafter, als Chax die Produktionen von Noisia und deren Sounddesign hört, insbesondere in den Tracks „The Tide“ und „Block Control“. Dadurch entschied er sich um 2016 herum dafür, zu produzieren anzufangen und fertigte einige EPs für Black Inferno, Suspect Device, Darkbass und Smackdown. Zu seinem Markenzeichen wurden kraftvolle, in eine dunkle Atmosphäre eingetauchte energetische Beats. Die Troika seiner „Fracture EP“ für uns schlägt in genau diese Kerbe. Deren progressive Tracks lassen jedes Neuroherz höher pochen. Chapeau an den frischgebackenen Familienvater!

Originally from the south of France, near Marseille, Charles discovered electronic music like so many out there with The Prodigy – „The Fat of the Land“. The entry into the world of Drum and Bass followed with „Driving Insane“ by Black Sun Empire and Aphrodite. In the years from 2010 on he started playing at a few parties, mixing mainly Acid Techno, Jungle, Raggajungle and finally Drum and Bass. The latter got more serious when Chax heard Noisia’s productions and sound design, particularly on the tracks „The Tide“ and „Block Control“. So he decided around 2016 to start producing some EPs for Black Inferno, Suspect Device, Darkbass and Smackdown. Powerful, energetic beats immersed in a dark atmosphere became his trademark. The troika of his „Fracture EP“ for us hits exactly this notch. Their progressive tracks make every Neuro heart beat faster. Chapeau to the guy who just became a family man recently!

And as we’ve come to expect from him, Ville takes a different approach to each title. In most cases, Kontrakt develops bilateralities on this EP. So he gets into „Armed and Dangerous“ extremely funky and then scratches the curve very nasty in the drop. „Biomutant“ as the title track combines post-apocalyptic martial arts with mythical Neurofunk beats par excellence! „Lanark“ takes over the Newskool part and isn’t stingy in the Scottish way, but bangs sublimely on the back of bleeps and dialup sounds. Cheers up, here are new beats from our favorite Finn Ville aka Kontrakt. These four tracks landed fresh in our inbox: on point and finished lacquered! And as we’ve come to expect from him, Ville takes a different approach to each title. In most cases, Kontrakt develops bilateralities on this EP. So he gets into „Armed and Dangerous“ extremely funky and then scratches the curve very nasty in the drop. „Biomutant“ as the title track combines post-apocalyptic martial arts with mythical Neurofunk beats par excellence! „Lanark“ takes over the Newskool part and isn’t stingy in the Scottish way, but bangs sublimely on the back of bleeps and dialup sounds. The finale is „Temptation“, a Halfstep kick-the-door number that makes everything clear in the last minute of the game. The signs point to a breakthrough. Loistava, Kontrakt!

Mit dieser Ausgabe feiern wir eine Dekade UTM-EP! Die sieben Tracks entstammen einem Künstlerreigen, welcher sowohl aus Producern besteht, deren Arbeiten wir bereits veröffentlicht haben, als auch von neuen Artists, die an Bord gekommen sind. Treibende Kraft bildet hierbei Sinister Souls mit dem distorting Bassmonster „Pennywise“. Basslastig geht’s auch zu bei „Basstrap“ von Dub Flavour, die uns hiermit einen wohlig pumpendem Roller kredenzt. Außerdem im Programm: Faun Dation mit „Melanie“, einer weiteren progressiven Nummer, die mit schrägem Synth versetzt ist. Jeweils zweimal haben wir im Repertoire: Wake N Bass mit „Unbelievable“ und „Whatever“ für die JumpUp-Heads sowie musikalischeren DnB von Gisix mit „Turn Down“ und „Find This Way“, wobei letztere die jungligste aller Nummern auf der EP verkörpert. Wieder einmal also ein musikalischer Querschnitt durch die Spielarten von DnB und ein adäquater Vorgeschmack auf URGE TO MOVE – The Awakening 2023!

With this edition we celebrate a decade of the UTM-EP! The seven tracks come from a roster of artists that includes both producers whose work we have previously released and new artists who have come on board. The driving force here is Sinister Souls with the distorting bass monster „Pennywise“. Bass-heavy is also the case with „Basstrap“ by Dub Flavour, which serves us a pleasantly pumping roller. Also on the programme: Faun Dation with „Melanie“, another progressive track mixed with a weird synth. In our repertoire we have two each: Wake N Bass with „Unbelievable“ and „Whatever“ for the JumpUp-Heads as well as more musical DnB from Gisix with „Turn Down“ and „Find This Way“, whereby the latter embodies the most jungly of all songs on the EP . So once again a musical cross-section through the varieties of DnB and an adequate foretaste of URGE TO MOVE – The Awakening 2023!

Und wieder ein neues Signing auf UTM-Records! Diesmal aus der Stadt der Liebe und es handelt sich um einen bekannten Unbekannten. N.O.C.K. steht für No One Can Know. Er produziert seit fünf Jahren und von ihm sind bereits zwei Releases im Orbit unterwegs. In seiner Leidenschaft für Musik und insbesondere für Drum and Bass durchquert er alle möglichen Universen und sucht nach neuen Sounds sowie Wegen, diese zu arrangieren. Im Januar 2023 veröffentlichte N.O.C.K. seinen ersten Track auf der Genesis VA-Compilation für Yamatai und feierte eine weitere Premiere auf All172Things. Nun kommt die erste umfassendere EP für uns und deren Tracks klingen wahrlich nicht nach einem Newcomer, sondern nach einem gestandenen Producer mit kolossalem Produktionslevel und genauer Vorstellung, wie sein techiger Sound klingen soll. And again a new signing on UTM-Records! This time from the city of love and it’s a known unknown. N.O.C.K. stands for No One Can Know. He has been producing for five years and already has two releases in orbit. In his passion for music and Drum and Bass in particular, he traverses all possible universes looking for new sounds and ways to arrange them. In January 2023, N.O.C.K. released his first track on the Genesis VA compilation for Yamatai and made another debut on All172Things. Now the first comprehensive EP is coming for us and its tracks really don’t sound like a newcomer, but like an established producer with a colossal production level and a precise idea of how his techy sound should sound. Just in time for the interval taking place of the UTM pres. The Redemption, UTM records fires out of all tubes with the next EP. The steadily producing hard-working bee PLTX is back on with two contributions, which could hardly be more different to each other. "This Love" lives up to its title and comes along as an autumnal melancholic track with heartbreaking vocal. A pleasantly oscillating bassline embeds the track on a feather pillow and in the background diverse FX waft close to the roller coaster of emotions regarding to the love theme."Switch" with Aemmo, on the other hand, is a stomping kick-ass tune for the hedonistic moments in the club. Due to its clever arrangement, "Switch" also has some eruptive moments reminding on a descent of an avalanche.EvilMind takes his inspirations e.g. from cinematic origins. "E.T. life "is a dreamy roller somewhere between Oral History, Sci-Fi and Area51: mysterious, dark, extraterrestrial!Again, the second track "Here to Stay" kicks a bit more and casts the spell over the inclined listener with a compelling bassline.The current JumpUp enforcers Blvck Crowz are also represented with two pieces. "Gave u my love" with Nano42 is a raging track for the blissful moments in the club, with a sound design between classic JumpUp and Uplifting - but especially with a hookline that invites you to join in."Skyliner" immediately stomps brutally and also the hook is very sharp in its mixdown and leaves no doubt left. This track with its staccato character has the immediate potential to initiate the bassface mode amongst the ravers.The final point is the recently scouted Taby, one of our friendly Czech neighbours. He already attracted attention with some clever bootlegs and now makes his debut here with "Shaman". A proper stepper, equipped with a good bass frame and a robotic vocal. Functional and qualitative DJ food!

UTM-Records ist das hauseigene Imprint der URGE TO MOVE Dachmarke. Das Label wurde 2014 von Friedrich Schlüter und Mark Greiser gegründet und stellt einen weiteren Mosaikstein unter all den verschiedenen Projekten dar, in welche URGE TO MOVE involviert ist.

UTM-Records war anfangs dafür vorgesehen, den produzierenden Members der UTM-Family eine Plattform zu bieten, auf der sie ihre eigenen Tracks veröffentlichen können. Inzwischen hat sich der Künstlerstamm auf jene erweitert, die sich der UTM-Family verbunden fühlen. Das Label agiert dabei nicht dogmatisch. Im Releaseportfolio finden sich Veröffentlichungen in den Bereichen Dubstep, House, HipHop oder Electronica.

Der Schwerpunkt liegt jedoch auf Drum´n´Bass. Und so weist der Backkatalog bereits sehr erfolgreiche Releases von u.a. von Disprove, Disphonia & TR Tactics, Blvck Crowz, Tobax oder Picota & Kumbh auf.
